Spartan Spotlight
May 2024
GreetingsFargo North Families,
As we enter the final month of this academic year, we want to ensure that it ends on a high note for all our students. This newsletter contains important updates and opportunities to help our students excel and enjoy the culmination of their hard work throughout the year.
1. Academic Support and Proficiency Days Program
We are introducing a new incentive program this semester to help motivate students to stay on top of their classwork. Students who meet specific academic criteria will have the opportunity to exempt themselves from attending the last two days of school on May 29th and 30th. This initiative not only rewards students for their hard work but also allows our teachers to focus these days on providing extra support to those who need it most. More details about this pilot program and eligibility criteria are available HERE. We also encourage parents/guardians to help students utilize our Spartan Period (8:05 – 8:40 AM) where teachers are available twice a week for additional help.
2. Day of Northside Pride – Wednesday, May 22nd
We kick off a full day of activities with the Academic Breakfast at 7:30 AM in the Spartandome, celebrating our students' academic achievements. Invitations will be sent to the families of qualifying students. At 9:00 AM, we start a new tradition as our proud seniors in caps and gowns will visit our feeder schools for "graduation walks." Later in the day, our Tech Ed department will host a grill-out for all students, followed by various fun activities in the afternoon. We'll conclude with an assembly in the Spartandome to honor the outstanding achievements of many of our students this year.
3. Graduation Details
FNH’s graduation ceremony is scheduled for 6:00 PM on Sunday, June 2nd at the Fargodome. The ceremony will be available via live stream on YouTube for those unable to attend in person. Additionally, graduation rehearsal is mandatory for all seniors and will take place on Friday, May 31st at 10:00 AM at the FARGODOME. Please ensure your senior is present as it is crucial for a smooth ceremony.
4. FPS Climate and Culture Survey
We value your feedback and invite all parents and guardians to participate in the FPS Climate and Culture survey. Your responses are vital in helping us understand the perceptions of our school community and in identifying areas we excel in or need improvement. The survey is accessible HERE.
As we approach the end of the school year, let’s all work together to support our students in finishing strong. Your involvement and encouragement make a significant difference in our community.
Sincerely,
Travis Christensen, Principal

End of Semester Proficiency Days
The program designates the last two days of the semester (May 29th and May 30th) as days for students and teachers to focus on re-teaching, re-assessing, completing missing work, and last chance proficiency opportunities. However, there is the opportunity for students to meet thresholds throughout the semester which would exempt them from needing to attend school on those two days. The belief is that this can allow teachers to connect with the students most in need during these last two days of the school year while also providing students with some incentive to do their best and be prepared as possible throughout the semester.
Purpose: The objective is to establish two days at the end of the semester to focus on reaching proficiency.
Students meeting the described threshold(s) in any class would not have to attend the last two days of the semester for that class/those classes.
Students who do NOT meet the threshold(s) in that class would come to school and focus on completing missing assessments, re-assessing, and last chance proficiency attempts.
Threshold for Students Not Needing to Attend
EBR Courses:
No Ns on summative assessments
No 1s as an overall enduring skill (resulting in a D or an F)
100 Point Courses:
No D or F as an actual or projected grade overall course grade
Optional Attendance:
Students could choose to come in, but not mandatory, if:
They had one or more 1s on individual game assessments
They would like to improve their actual / projected grade
They have 0s on summative assessments (points class)
Time Length:
Required Students - Entire period
Optional Students - May be released by the teacher upon assessment(s) completion
Last Day of Classes
Thursday, May 30, 2024 is the last day of classes for students. All school and physical education lockers must be emptied before the student leaves/completes their school year. Any items left in the lockers will be thrown or donated. North High will not be responsible for items left in lockers.
End of Year Check-In
We want to remind everyone that ALL MATERIALS ARE DUE BY THE LAST DAY OF SCHOOL. This includes PLDs, PLD chargers, textbooks, as well as library books and equipment checked out. Any items that are not turned in by the last day of school will be marked lost and an invoice will be sent home.
Students can see what they have checked out by going to the card catalog and logging in (upper right corner). From there, click “My Info” on the blue ribbon. This is also where you can see what is checked out, and if there are any fines on your account. These fines could be from PLD repairs, lost or damaged books/textbooks, lost PLD charger, etc.
This is especially important for Seniors, as all materials must be turned in or paid for in order to participate in the graduation ceremony. If in doubt, please have your student stop by the library or talk to their teacher.
