What We're Reading: VPL Book Chats
If you are in the habit of checking Goodreads before checking out your books, then this one will show mixed reviews. 'The Light We Lost' by Jill Santopolo starts the story where Lucy and Gabe meet in college on the day of September 11, 2001. They have an instant connection on that day and feel the need to do something that matters to the world. The story continues with Lucy narrating her life, her love for Gabe, their journey together and apart. But when you have dreams of doing something that matters, years apart, and continents away, will love last? Even with the mixed reviews, I enjoyed this book and was emotionally invested. I am looking forward to reading the second book, 'The Love We Found.'
Adrienne Young's 'The Unmaking of June Farrow' takes the reader on a tale of parallel timelines with an untrustworthy narrator. In the mountain town of Jasper, June Farrow grapples with her family's curse, linked to her mother Susanna's mysterious disappearance. She's plagued by haunting visions & is determined to break the family curse even at the cost of her own sanity. Following her grandmother's passing, June discovers vital clues about her mother's past, culminating in her encounter with a mysterious door that every woman in her family has seen and crossed through, taking them from the past and to the future. This was a great weekend read & I plan to read more by this author. Happy reading, friends! ~Heather
