May Newsletter

The month of May is off to a busy start! We are celebrating staff appreciation week. Our Kentucky Summative Assessment has started, and our Shark Olympics celebrated our students' hard work on the MAP assessment! Our PTA has been a great partner all year, but I wanted to say thank you for going above and beyond to make sure that our staff has felt appreciated this week.
If you are looking for ways to volunteer or become involved in the school for the remainder of this or next year, please consider joining the PTA! As we approach the end of the school year, a long-standing tradition at Sandersville is the saying, Finish Strong. While our days are limited for the rest of this school year, we want to continue to make an impact that will propel our students to be ready for the next grade level.
Our 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders will spend the next couple of weeks showing their growth on our state assessment. Our Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd graders will continue learning skills that will prepare them for next fall.
This time of year we have many celebrations. It is so much fun to be able to celebrate the hard work of our students. Our calendar below will be very important for the last couple of weeks of school, but please be aware that there may be classroom activities that are not listed. Please stay in close communication with your student's homeroom teacher. Thank you again for all of your support!

The first section of your student's planner contains our Sandersville Student & Family Handbook. It is filled with information that is helpful throughout the year.
Please review the guidelines for student absences in the student code of conduct (beginning on page 29). A quick reminder: notes for absences must be in writing and submitted within three days.
Kentucky Summative Assessment (3rd-5th Grade)
Our 3rd-5th graders will begin the state-mandated assessment, KSA (Kentucky Summative Assessment) tomorrow, May 8. As parents, you can best help support your child with this opportunity to showcase what they know academically by preparing him/her in the following ways….
Be sure your child is at school every day and arrives on time. Missing a test means it must be made up at a later date. (However, if your child is truly sick, please keep him or her at home. A sick child will not do well!) You can also make sure your child gets a good night’s rest. Typically, children this age need at least 8-9 hours of sleep at night. We also want students to eat a good breakfast at home or at school. Try to include some protein so they can focus for longer periods of time. Ensure your child wears comfortable, weather appropriate clothing. They need to be comfortable in order to do their best! Please note if your child brings a device to school during testing it must be turned off in his or her backpacks. This includes phones and smartwatches.
You know your child best; we do not want them to feel stressed, but your support is instrumental. Morning pep talks can really start their day off right! It is beneficial to emphasize the test's importance and tell them that you expect them to do their very best! Certain questions or tests may be challenging but doing their best means persevering. We appreciate your support throughout the school year and during these last important weeks. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions!
