Family Game Night Success!
Families had fun enjoying the large games in the gym and playing bingo in the cafeteria. Most students were able to win a prize for getting bingo at least once. A big thanks goes out to the students from Knox College that volunteered to help run bingo. This made the games run smoother and allowed more prizes to be handed out.
On behalf of Steele PTO, we want to extend a heartfelt thank you for all that you did to help make our 3rd Annual Family Game Night & Silent Auction a huge success! An event like this can not be done without the efforts of many many people. Whether you obtained silent auction donations, checked BINGO cards, bought silent auction items, or braved the intense circling of final bids-we couldn't have done it without you!
Despite the bitter cold and the rescheduling of the event we were able to raise $4,412 (only $33 less than last year!)! These funds will be used to help pay for all family engagement events, food at said events, teacher appreciation week, parent teacher conference meals, and more! Thank you again for giving of your resources to make this event so successful!

January's Character Strong Theme - Empathy
This month’s focus is Empathy. One way to think about Empathy is “understanding and connecting with other people’s feelings.” Empathy is a practice that can help us grow strong relationships. Empathy is 1 of 3 traits we will focus on throughout the year that helps students Be Kind. Across grade levels, students will be developing skills like perspective-taking, conflict resolution, and leadership.

How do we grade at the elementary level? We use a standards-based report card instead of a report card with letter grades. Elementary report cards are issued at the end of each grading period. They are intended to give an evaluation of the scholastic achievement and work habits of each child. Parents should examine all cards carefully since each child is rated not only on academic progress, but also progress in development of social attitudes and work habits.
We use a 4,3,2,1 system to assess a student's mastery of standards.
4 = Exceeding State and District Standards
3 = Meeting State and District Standards
2 = Approaching State and District Standards
1 = Not Meeting State and District Standards
