We are getting ready to start Chorus Club! Chorus is for any 4th and 5th grade students who want to practice singing different songs than we do in normal music class and perform for events like Winter Wonderland, International night, and others. We meet before school every Thursday morning, from 7:15-8:00. Students must have transportation that allows them to arrive by 7:15am to be in chorus. There is a registration fee of $16.00, which includes this year's chorus shirt, any snacks for after school rehearsals, and also goes towards any music purchased for performance. Registration is done through MyPayments Plus and will open on Friday, August 23. The first chorus practice will be Thursday, September 5. All students must register before attending the morning practices.

• Our kindergartners checked out their first book this week in the media center! It’s always an exciting to put books into the hands of our students!
• Refer to the media program section of our school website for circulation policies and media center procedures.
• We still have several student media accounts with fines from last school year. As a reminder, all fines for lost or damaged books can be paid on MyPaymentsPlus this year. We are no longer accepting cash or checks for media fines.
• Please review the instructions below to check your child’s media center account. If you have any questions, please contact the media staff.

The Summer Reading Celebration will be held on Friday, September 13! All students who read and logged 600 minutes in their school or GCPL Beanstack account will be recognized.

The GCPS Book Mobile will visit our school to reward students with a free book of their choice.

The Beanstack “Fall Into Reading” Challenge begins in September! This year, students meeting the monthly challenge will be rewarded with a PBIS reading brag tag! If you have any questions or need more support, contact Jennifer.Alden@gcpsk12.org.

The Woodward Mill Readers Rally Club will kick off on Wednesday, Sept. 18 at 7:15 AM in the media center! Student applications will be available on Friday, September 6, 2024. All applications must be returned to Mrs. Alden or Mrs. Jones by Monday, September 16, 2024 in order to be a part of the club.

For more information, refer to the Readers Rally link on the media program section of our school website. We look forward to building a team of readers to compete at this year’s Readers Rally event in February 2025!

• Please provide an excuse note or a doctor’s note to the teacher within 5 days of your child’s return to school.
