Lake Orion High School
March 4, 2024

First and foremost, we want to thank all our parents for an outstanding turnout at Parent-Teacher Conferences last week. The partnership between school and home and the conversations regarding academic achievement reinforce our purpose and the daily efforts supporting the teaching and learning process.
It’s March! Daylight is gradually extending, the weather is becoming more pleasant, and students are eagerly anticipating Spring Break. Naturally, it feels like we are rapidly accelerating toward the final stretch of the school year. For all students, we are emphasizing an enhanced focus and sustained effort. The warmth and sunshine are very welcomed, but – for teenagers – the changing of the seasons sometimes also translate to a change in mentality. That pitfall is especially true for our seniors who can see the finish line broaching the horizon. In this week’s newsletter, we’re reminding our prospective graduates and their parents of the meetings that are scheduled on either March 5 or March 7 (see Senior Section below). In addition, we have our College Fair today, Monday, March 4 which is a great opportunity for students to learn more about their post-secondary opportunities.
Charity week starts next week, winter sports seasons are ending, spring seasons are beginning. There is many other great things happening here at LOHS. Thank you for your support in Protecting the Thunder.

Please plan on attending ONE of the mandatory Graduation Meetings that are being offered this week on Tuesday, March 5 or Thursday, March 7 at 7:00 p.m. in the LOHS auditorium. FAMILY ENGAGEMENT SURVEY
LOHS is conducting stakeholder surveys for parents/guardians, students, and teachers/staff. The purpose of these surveys is to identify areas of strength for LOHS, as well as areas of concern or need.
Teacher and Student surveys will be completed during the school day on Tuesday, March 5th. LOHS is seeking parents and guardians of LOHS students to take a few minutes out of their day to complete this anonymous survey. The survey can be completed via the link below and will be available today, Monday, March 4 through Friday, March 15.
Free Tutoring
Dear LOHS Parents,
Lake Orion High School is extremely excited to announce a continuation of our free tutoring program. This program will allow your child to connect directly with LOHS staff in specific content areas (math, science, social studies, etc.) outside of normal school hours. These tutoring sessions are one hour and can take place either in person or virtually through Microsoft Teams (this is decided between the tutor and the student(s) in the group). This tutoring is intended as remediation as opposed to homework help; however, homework is often utilized to teach skills. As we do not have an inexhaustible number of tutors available, this program is on a first come, first serve basis.
To sign up your child, please fill out this form.
If you have additional questions, please contact Cathy Srock at Catherine.Srock@LOk12.org.

SERVICE HOURS SPOTLIGHT
The deadline is fast approaching for service hours for our 2024 Seniors!
As noted on the LOHS website and in the handbook, in order to walk at graduation: All Service Hours, along with a completed reflection for each event, must be submitted through each student’s x2VOL account no later than the Friday after Spring Break of senior year, which is April 5, 2024 for the 2023-24 school year. I have been busy meeting with all Seniors who have not reached 20 hours. Please ask them to check their Teams messages if they say they have not heard from Ms. P!
During the meeting, I shared the list of upcoming events for February and March, which are available before the deadline. That list can be found at the bottom of the LOHS Service Learning website under “February/March Service Opportunities.”
For more deadlines regarding Service Hours, see the LOHS Service Learning website.
