Conferences
We are excited for our first round of conferences next week, from October 23-25. While this quarter’s conferences will be primarily teacher-led, we strongly encourage your student(s) to attend with you.
We’ve received feedback from both parents and teachers regarding the conference format, and we recognize that there is no perfect solution for scheduling middle school conferences. With teachers instructing up to 200 students daily, students having up to 7 teachers, and many students having a unique combination of classes, scheduling joint conferences for all teachers is nearly impossible.
Even if each family conference lasted just 5-7 minutes, that would require teachers to commit 17-24 hours to meetings.
Given these challenges, we invite families to drop in at any time during the windows below. When you arrive, you can prioritize seeing 1-2 teachers or meet with all of your child’s teachers, depending on your preference. Please be mindful that there may be some wait times as teachers will meet with families on a first-come, first-served basis.
Conference Times:
- Wednesday, October 23rd: 4:30 - 6:30 PM
- Thursday, October 24th: 1:00 - 6:30 PM (teachers will take a short break between 4:00-5:00 PM)
- Friday, October 25th: By appointment/invitation only
If you're unable to attend during the district’s designated conference times or feel that you may need more time to meet with your child’s teachers, please complete [this form] so we can follow up with you.
Promoting Empathy and Accountability
In response to an increase in Office Discipline Referral data and student reports, we will be presenting information during their humanities classes to all students grades 5-8 on Thursday and Friday this week. This interaction presentation will include information about building empathy for others' differences, being accountable for our words at school, and will include some practice time for students to prepare for real life situations should they arise. We will also be reviewing our grade level RULER Charters and the discipline response to inappropriate and/or offensive language at school.
We encourage you to discuss this important topic with your children.
