Denton ISD Fine Arts
Empowering Artistic Growth. Every Student. Every day.
Denton ISD high school theatre students and directors had the opportunity to attend the Texas Thespians State Festival, November 21-23 at the Gaylord Texan Convention Center in Grapevine. Each year, Texas Thespians hosts a state-wide festival including over 8,000 delegates. As one of the largest annual Thespian festivals where theatre is everywhere, students and their troupe directors celebrate an entire weekend of theatre that includes performances, competitive events, and college auditions.
Braswell HS and Denton HS theatre troupes both earned the honor of Texas “All Star Troupe” based on community service, community outreach, production history and company/school traditions and culture. Congratulations to the 26 outstanding theatre students that received a Superior rating at Texas Thespians and are National Qualfiers.
337 Band, Choir, and Orchestra Students in TMEA All-Region Groups
High school and middle school students from Denton ISD bands, choirs, and orchestras participate in the TMEA All-Region auditions each year among students from districts in Region 2 including Argyle, Lake Dallas, Lewisville, and Northwest ISDs. Students must perform a competitive audition on pre-determined music etudes. The top performing students qualify to perform in the TMEA Region 2 Bands, Choirs, and Orchestras. The top performing students from Region 2 also qualify to audition at the Area level for a chance at making TMEA All-State.
In all, 337 Denton ISD music students have been selected for the Region 2 bands, choirs, and orchestras. 19 HS band students and 5 HS choir students have qualified to audition at Area, Jan 11, the final round that determines if they make All-State. So far, 5 students have qualified for All-State. DHS students Eric Crenshaw, Matthew Garcia, and Owen White have been selected for the All-State Jazz Ensembles. GHS students Audrey Lee and Christian Luevano have been selected for the All-State Orchestras.

All-District MS Band Concert at Denton HS, Jan 10
The Organization of American Kodály Educators (OAKE) National Conference is an annual event occurring in a different city each year, bringing together music educators and clinicians over the course of four days and culminating in the performance of singers selected to participate in the National Choirs. There are four audition-based OAKE National Conference Choirs, each led by a nationally renowned conductor. Accepted singers will learn and memorize the music at home with their own teachers before going to the conference city. Denton ISD is proud that seven DISD 5th grade students have been selected for the OAKE National Children's Chorus. They will be representing Denton and the State of Texas at the OAKE Conference in Portland, OR on March 7.
