From Mr. Clemente
Dear Winter Park Band families,
Even though the weather didn't cooperate on Friday night, we still made the most of it and had fun! We're looking forward to another shot to take the field this Thursday at our first home football game of the season. Students will again wear their Summer Uniform for this week's game. The itinerary can be found on the Band website, linked above in the football game event, and attached to the message sent out to students and parents/guardians.
This week continues our regular Tuesday evening and Thursday after school rehearsal schedule for the Sound of the Wildcats. Tuesday evening rehearsals are scheduled from 6 - 8:30 PM and Thursdays from 2:45 - 5 PM. This schedule rarely changes so our families are able to consistently plan their weeks. On Tuesday evenings, students must be dropped off to school between 5:30 - 5:45 PM so they can have enough time to prepare for rehearsal and be on their spot at 6 PM. All of our Band events start promptly at the time indicated on the calendar, and as the old adage goes:
"To be early is to be on time, to be on time is to be late, to be late is unacceptable."
We launch the Widdy-Up fundraiser this Monday, August 26. Students must bring back the completed list of contacts to their Band class on Monday to complete the first step of the fundraiser. Please see the message below from Mrs. Fodor for complete details.
This Wednesday, 8/28, we will hold a Chicago Tour Information Meeting in the Band room from 7 - 8 PM. During the meeting we will discuss the preliminary itinerary of the trip, the events students will perform/participate in, and the preliminary quoted cost. We'll also talk about how to utilize fundraisers to offset the cost of your trip. The trip is open to all Winter Park Band students regardless of grade level, instrument, or ensemble placement, and all instrumentalists on the trip will have at least one performance opportunity.
If your family chose the payment plan for Fair Share at the beginning of the year, the next Fair Share Payment is due this Wednesday, August 28. Please see the Finances and Cut Time section of the news letter below for a reminder of the amount due.
Keep up the great work selling Sponsorships and submitting Student Dedications! An update on the fundraiser is located below from Julie Capps.
If you ordered extra show shirts, they were sent home after both rehearsals last week. If you missed out on that order, stay tuned for one final chance to order soon.
Together, let's make it a great week going into the holiday weekend!
Mr. Clemente
From our Fundraising Chair, Mrs. Robyn Fodor
We launch Widdy-Up fundraiser this Monday!! August 26-Sept 9
This fundraiser is called Widdy Up and it uses a video pitch to send to friends and family asking for donations. Donors receive a special video thank you. It's a very personal way to connect with donors instead of only an email.
A contact form went home with your students last week to bring in tomorrow with names and emails or phone numbers. The students will input them into their account at Widdy Up to share our pitch and thank you videos. If you need to ask friends and family in advance if your student can send them this fundraiser info, please find out today.
If you don’t have this form, you can write the contact info of 15-20 people on a piece of paper and send that to school with your student. The more contacts, the more money you will raise.
Widdy Up DOES NOT sell, rent or share any of the contact info that students upload into their Widdy Up account. Please feel confident to share contacts for this fundraiser, as it has the potential to raise a lot of money and, I find that most people really do want to give to good causes.

Sponsorship & Student Dedication Fundraiser
The Winter Park Band Sponsorship and Student Dedication Program is off to a strong start! Thank you to the families and local businesses who have already contributed and CONGRATULATIONS to the students who have earned credit from those sales.
As a reminder, students have two options for earning that financial credit:
- Sell a multi-level Sponsorship to a local business
- Sell a Student Dedication in the band program
Students can earn up to 60% credit or $1000 max from each sponsorship they sell. Students will earn the same 60% credit for any Student Dedication sold. For additional context, a parent who purchases a full-page Student Dedication will earn enough credit back to their student’s account to cover their annual fair share payment of $255, minus $15.
Sales close September 27, 2024, so we can have all ads in for the first concert of the season in October.
More information can be found on the band website here: http://www.winterparkhsband.com/band-boosters.html
If you have any questions, contact Julie Capps at wpbandprogram@gmail.com or 704-258-3306.
Thank you for your partnership in supporting the Winter Park High Band!
From our Uniform Co-Chairs Mrs. Jenniffer Randolph & Mrs. Andrea Rediske
Greetings from the Uniform Squad!
First, we want to express our sincere gratitude to the volunteers who worked so hard on Tuesday and Thursday last week. We were able to fit 48 students on Tuesday evening and 45 students Thursday day & evening!
We appreciate everyone who gave time in their busy schedules to help make our students look amazing. Shout out to our volunteers:
- Tuesday Evening Rock Stars: Jen Mullins, Laura Cambridge, Robyn Fodor, Vanessa Irons-Fleming, Lissette Dennis, Harlika Watzman, Kirsten Cowan, and Sarah Rideau
- Tuesday Daytime/Evening Rock Stars: Jen Mullins, Laura Cambridge, Harlika Watzman, Vanessa Irons-Fleming, and Robyn Fodor, and Kirsten Cowan.
We know your time is valuable, and we appreciate you! We couldn't do this without you!
We are very close to getting everything organized to help your students get outfitted efficiently this year, but we could use a little more help. Here is where we need volunteers for Tuesday, August 27th at 5:00 pm:
- Marching shoe organization, distribution, and measuring: 2 volunteers
- Marching Uniform Ironing: 4 - 6 volunteers
- Please bring an iron, ironing board, water spray bottle, and a white t-shirt or rag to place over the uniform for ironing. We have a few of these items in the uniform room, but it will help us a lot if you have your own!
- Shako and cubby organizing: 2 - 3 volunteers
- Here is the link to the sign-up for 8/27
Finally, this week's Friday night game was rained out, but it was a great dress rehearsal for future summer uniform games. Please make sure your students have the following for games with summer uniforms:
- Current show shirt
- Khaki shorts
- Brown or black belt
- Athletic shoes and socks
Once again, a huge thanks to all the volunteers supporting uniform fittings! You're the best!
Yours in band couture,
Andrea Rediske and Jenniffer Randolph

Volunteering season has kicked off even if football hasn't! Thanks to the volunteers who came out to hang out with the students on buses; I hope you will try again and get to have the full experience. There are some spots still open on away games and on the uniform team across the board. https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0A4FADAB22AA8-50300062-football#/ Please make sure your ADDitions certification is up to date.
The Uniform Team has worked hard to get all the students fitted, now they are looking for a few more volunteers to come in on Tuesday evening with irons and ironing boards to get the marching uniforms ready. https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0A4FADAB22AA8-50317815-uniform#/

Private Lessons
Whether a student is learning a musical instrument to pursue a career in music, or simply for personal musical fulfillment and recreation, private lessons are one of the best investments that a parent can provide for their musical child. When working with a private teacher, students receive one-on-one instruction from a professional musician who specializes on that instrument.
Unlike a full band rehearsal experience, studying with a private teacher focuses in on the student’s individual needs. Students who study privately once a week from a professional musician are usually those who excel and find Band more enjoyable. These students frequently earn positions in honor groups like All-State and All-County, and make entry into our more advanced bands like Wind Symphony and Jazz Ensemble I. Some even go on to earn college scholarships, even if they are not majoring in music!
Below is a link to a list of local private teachers. This list is not exhaustive, and there may be other individuals who are not on the list. If you are a private teacher who would like to be added to our list (or deleted), or know a private teacher who should be added, please contact Mr. Clemente at michael.clemente@ocps.net.
