Meet the Teacher

My name is Mrs. McManus, and I am delighted to be your teacher this year. We are in for a wonderful year filled with learning and fun! THIRD GRADE ROCKS!

I was born in Florida but relocated to a small town in North Carolina at the age of ten. I have always had a passion for being outdoors. As a child, I loved riding motorcycles and exploring the mountains around my home. From a young age, I realized that I wanted to become a teacher because I enjoy helping others. When I'm not focused on school-related tasks, I like biking, shopping, and watching movies with my husband and three girls. I also love spending time with my furry companions, Ally, Double, and Silvio.

This year marks my 20th year teaching 3rd grade at Wilkesboro Elementary School, and it is my 27th year in the field of education. I graduated with a bachelor's degree in elementary education from Appalachian State University. After several years of teaching, I pursued and achieved my National Board Certification.

Fun Fact- I was the 2021-22 Teacher of the Year for Wilkes County Schools. I was honored to be chosen to represent the amazing teachers in Wilkes County.

I reside in Wilkesboro with my husband and our three daughters. My oldest daughter recently graduated from Furman University and has begun her veterinary studies at NC State University. My middle daughter is currently enrolled at Wingate University, where she has just started the nursing program. Meanwhile, my youngest daughter is a super senior at Wilkes Early College High School, set to graduate in May with both her high school diploma and an associate degree

Book: Because of Winn-Dixie is my favorite book.

Color: I like all of the colors of the rainbow.

Food: I love M&Ms, pizza and steak.

Restaurant: TwoBoros and Dooley's (It's a tie!)

Animal: I love cats and dogs.

Saturday activity: I love biking, shopping and watching movies with my family.

School supply: I love ALL school supplies, but colorful Flair pens are my favorite!
