Husky Headlines
January, 2024
Husky Families,
We have so much to update you on! December brought boundless joy beginning with our fourth graders meticulously-prepared holiday musical, our Hitmakers spread cheer at Quail Creek Nursing Home through caroling and handmade cards, and students enjoyed festive parties thanks to our dedicated PTA and a generous Chick-fil-A meal donation from a Husky family.
January marks our renewed focus on reading. During our DEAR (Drop Everything And Read) day, students immersed themselves in 30 minutes of dedicated reading time, with a special visit from Dr. Lathan. Research shows that just 20 minutes of daily reading can expose students to 1.8 million words per year, dramatically improving vocabulary and comprehension. Looking ahead, our "Read 417" challenge invites students to read 417 minutes before spring break. Keep an eye out for tracking bookmarks coming home with your students. See the graphic below for more details about this exciting initiative.
Looking forward to celebrating our students' reading achievements and watching their love of books grow throughout this quarter.

Attendance Matters - 95% Attendance Goal
Attendance Update:
While December's seasonal illnesses impacted our attendance, we're making progress in January, currently at 93% - approaching our 95% goal. Please ensure your children arrive on time, stay for the full day, and come prepared to learn. Remember: even missing just two days monthly can result in losing a full month of instruction over the academic year.
February Attendance Challenge: Students achieving 98% attendance between February 1-27 will be invited to our "Pajamas & Virtual Adventure Day" on February 28th. Students will wear PJs to school and experience an exciting virtual field trip! Our goal is celebrating consistent attendance while making learning fun.
