A Strong Start to the Year: 1st Quarter Recap
End of 1st Quarter- Academic reminder
As we approach the end of the first quarter, I wanted to share some important dates and reminders. The last day of the first quarter will be Friday, November 1st. This is an excellent time for students to review their progress, connect with teachers, and ensure they’re meeting their academic goals for the first part of the year.
All quarter grades will be finalized by our teachers by Tuesday, November 5th at 4:00 PM. This allows teachers to thoroughly evaluate student work, ensuring grades accurately reflect the dedication and effort our students have put into their learning. If you have questions regarding specific courses or assignments, I encourage you to reach out directly to the teacher.
For students participating in extracurricular activities, the grade checks will take place on Wednesday, November 6th. As always, eligibility is an essential part of maintaining our school’s high standards for academic and extracurricular excellence, and it’s important that students stay focused in both areas.
Thank you for your continued support and commitment to making this first quarter successful.
As we wrap up the first quarter of the school year, I am thrilled to reflect on the energy, dedication, and success that has filled our hallways. It has been an exciting start, and our Bobcat community has shown tremendous engagement across academics, activities, and new initiatives.
Our students continue to excel academically, with many taking on challenging coursework. Their determination to achieve excellence is evident in the classroom, and we are proud of their hard work. The commitment to grades and personal growth is seen in our students' pursuit of academic success.
We launched our Bobcat P.R.I.D.E. initiative, which has already started to elevate our school culture. Our core values of Participation, Respect, Integrity, Determination, and Excellence are being lived out by students and staff daily. Whether in the classroom, on the field, or within extracurricular activities, our Bobcats are embracing these values, setting a positive tone for the rest of the year.
Our activities continue to shine, with our leadership taking it to new heights as our student leaders step into their roles, with many students and teams earning recognition for their talents. From the Fine Arts to the fields, the first quarter has been full of accomplishments.
We also celebrated another successful Homecoming Week, with our tradition of crowning a Homecoming Lord and Lady. The spirit week events, pep rally, and the much-anticipated Burning (Lighting) of the B brought together students, staff, and the community in true Bobcat fashion. These traditions remind us of the strong bonds we share as a school community.
As we move into the second quarter, I am excited to see our students continue to thrive and our school spirit grow even stronger. Thank you to our dedicated staff, involved parents, and incredible students for making this quarter such a success. Let’s keep up the momentum!

Exciting New Course Opportunity!
JAG (Jobs for Americas Graduates) will be a class taught at Brookings High School during Semester 2 by JAG Specialist, Brooke Meendering, who is an employee of the Brookings School District. The class can satisfy an elective credit required for high school graduation. Students are empowered to take the lead on planning projects centered on civic responsibility, leadership, social interaction, academic performance and professionalism. JAG students collectively decide how projects, class assignments and community engagement activities are carried out by electing a governing body, assigning leadership roles, then holding each other accountable. The eighty-four (84) JAG competencies are the result of employers' views on desired worker traits and skills, job search reviews and considerable feedback by Specialists. The thirty-seven (37) core competencies are grouped into six (6) clusters: Career Development, Job Attainment, Job Survival, Basic Skills, Leadership and Self-Development, and Personal Skills.
Please respond by November 13th if you are interested by using this link or the QR code above.
BHS Student Attendance
As we strive for excellence in every part of our school community, I want to take a moment to emphasize the importance of regular school attendance. Every day, our students are engaging in learning experiences, discussions, and activities that build the skills they need to succeed—not just academically but socially and personally as well.
When students attend school consistently, they are more likely to stay on track with their assignments, build stronger relationships with their peers and teachers, and be prepared for assessments and projects. In fact, research shows that students who attend school regularly are more likely to graduate on time and are better equipped for college, careers, and beyond.
At Brookings High School, we encourage students to embody Bobcat P.R.I.D.E. by showing Determination and Participation in their commitment to regular attendance. We understand that sometimes illnesses or unavoidable circumstances arise, and when they do, it’s important to communicate with our office to ensure we stay informed and can support your child’s needs.
Let’s continue to work together to make school attendance a priority, setting our students up for success now and in the future. Thank you for all you do to support your student’s learning and our Bobcat community!
Gaggle
Gaggle Web Filter
Brookings High School would like to make you aware of a program that is utilized in our district. This tool, Gaggle, is software that helps monitor student safety and activity on only school-provided devices, for concerning content. Gaggle operates on a combination of machine-learning technology and human content moderation to alert school districts of potential threats of violence, substance use, suicide, self-harm, harassment, sexual content/pornography, and profanity. Items flagged by Gaggle on a student's school-issued device are referred to the building administrator and followed up on by the appropriate professionals.
Thank you for your cooperation and support in ensuring the safety of all of our students at Brookings High School.
Student Parking Reminders
As the year has progressed, our students have been doing a great job in the parking lots, and we appreciate your attention to safe driving. As a friendly reminder, please continue to exercise caution and park only in designated student areas, avoiding marked staff spaces with red lines. Also, remember to park within designated parking spot lines to maintain clear driving paths for everyone.
To ensure these guidelines are followed, please note that violations will result in progressive consequences: first, a warning; second, a one-week loss of parking privileges; third, a loss of privileges for the semester; and finally, further violations will result in no parking access for the remainder of the school year. Let’s work together to keep our parking lot safe and organized for all!
Bobcat Time
As part of our commitment to supporting every student’s success, we’d like to strongly encourage all students to make regular use of Bobcat Time each week.
This dedicated time provides students with valuable opportunities to receive additional support, review challenging topics, ask questions, and reinforce their understanding. By making consistent use of this resource, students can deepen their learning, stay on top of their work, and build confidence in their academic journey. Even a small, regular investment in extra help time can make a significant difference. Please encourage your student to take advantage of this opportunity to enhance their learning and build strong study habits.
Thank you for your support in helping us create a community of lifelong learners!
