April TOUGH Students of the Month
April 2024
Nardie Saint-Cyr is the student of the month for the Class of 2027. Nardie was nominated twice this month. Fir first was by Ms. Dennis, who stated “Nardie stepped up when we were missing a huge part of our class yesterday (Ms. Ennals!) and helped her classmates without being asked. She held them to high standards and did not let them choose to sit it out. Nardie explained the work to them in their native language, and ensured they were paying attention and participating, while also doing the same herself.” Later in the month, Mrs. Carels sent the following shout-out: “Nardie radiates enthusiasm when it comes to learning. She is always engaged in her tasks and yearning to learn more. She is also motivated to assist her peers if they struggle to comprehend an assignment. Nardie makes it obvious that she wants the best for everyone around her!” While Nardie reports to love all of her teachers, her favorite class is English as a Foreign Language because “I feel like I can be me when I am in that class. I can speak every language I want in that class and no one will judge me.” After CRHS, Nardie wants to go to college to be a nurse. She states: “I want to learn more languages to help translate for people when they are sick and need someone to understand what they are trying to say.” Nardie had a lot of thoughts about being Colonel TOUGH. She says that it mostly means “respecting other people and helping others. And I think it means to work hard every day and always participate in class. The most important part for me is HELPING OTHERS. I like to help others because I love it. When I need help people always help me so it makes me feel great.
FUN FACT: Nardie can speak French, Creole, English, and some Spanish.
Brenlee Bruce is the student of the month for the Class of 2026. CRHS engineering teacher Mr. Newberry nominated Brenlee, saying “Brenlee has worked hard to design and lead her engineering group to design a 3D golf course in Onshape and build with 3D printed parts. She went above and beyond to create a unique themed course that was fun to play! She had heart and gave great feedback to her peers when she was completed. Brenlee’s favorite class at Colonel has been Spanish with Mrs. Anderson. She remembers that “I came to Colonel my freshman year and was dreading Spanish, but Mrs. Anderson's teaching style and unique teaching methods led me on the right path to wanting to pursue Spanish IV!” After high school, Brenlee wants “to go to my dream college John Hopkins University Of Medicine to pursue a doctorate. I want to use this degree and skills to become a neurosurgeon and save lives. I came to this conclusion after my mom was diagnosed with cancer when I was little, which led me to want to help those who fall in my position.” Lastly, Brenlee had some important thoughts about being Colonel TOUGH. She stated “Being Colonel TOUGH means to be the best you can to those around you regardless of past or present decisions. The most important part of TOUGH to me is understanding diversity and embracing all people for the greater good.”
FUN FACT: Some things outside of friends and family that Brenlee enjoys are singing, playing video games, and longboarding.
Dylan Cecil is the student of the month for the Class of 2025. Mr. Shaheen recognized Dylan, noting that “Dylan is an exemplary student in Strength and Conditioning. He goes above and beyond to reach his goals in the classroom and the weight room. He is always the hardest worker in the weight room and never backs down from a challenge. They don't call him Machine for nothing!” Not surprisingly, Dylan’s favorite class is Strength and Conditioning because “I get to work out and get stronger.” After CRHS, Dylan wants to go to college and says he might become a math teacher. For him, being TOUGH means “you are always staying on top of stuff, and helping others to become great in the real world.”
FUN FACT: Dylan wants to start a landscaping business when he grows up!
Darren Sedgwick is the student of the month for the Class of 2024. He was nominated by Mrs. North in April. Of Darren, she says: “Darren Sedgwick is the TOUGHest of TOUGH. He has helped me and others obtain goals and has gone above and beyond to make Tractor Day successful and meaningful. I am not exaggerating when I say that I couldn't pull Tractor Day off without him. I am going to be so lost next year!!!” Well, appreciation goes both ways here. Darren says that one of his favorite memories from high school has been planning Tractor Day with Mrs. North. When it comes to being TOUGH, Darren has a simple answer: “Show up to school and do what you need to do.” After high school, Darren wants to continue to work on the farm.
FUN FACT: Darren has planned the CRHS Tractor Day for the last three years!
