LTSD Career Services
October 2024
Happy Fall, Loyalsock!
Dear LTSD Students & Families,
October is here, and you know what that means - pumpkin spice, cozy sweaters, and... college applications! It’s officially crunch time for our seniors, and we’ve got plenty of exciting workshops lined up to help them prepare for your next adventure, whether it's heading off to college, enlisting in our military, or jumping into the workforce.
But that's not all! Students in grades 6-12 will have three amazing opportunities this month to meet professionals from our community through our Career Cafe series. For October, we’re thrilled to host a nurse, a sign language interpreter, and a local business owner. These sessions are a fantastic way to explore different careers and get inspired!
We’re excited about all the great opportunities ahead for our Loyalsock students. Let’s make the most of it!

September Wrap-Up
We had a lot of fun in Career Services during the month of September. For starters, we had 50 students from the junior and senior classes attend "College Day" at Commonwealth University - Mansfield. Lancers had the chance to connect with representatives from over 40 colleges and universities during a college fair, attend an insightful admissions presentation, enjoy a tour of the Mansfield campus, and experience an all-you-can-eat lunch in the dining hall.
We also hosted our first Career Cafe opportunities. On September 26, we had Lea and Dr. Naim Jabbour, who discussed their careers in the field of Architecture. On September 27, Dylan Rockoff made a stop in our building while on tour to talk about his experiences in the music industry. Between the two events, we had over 70 students in grades 6-12 hear about these careers and experiences!

Snacks & Apps/Instant Decision Days for Seniors
Fuel Your Future: Work on Your College Apps with Snacks & Support!
We are offering a new event called "Snacks & Apps" this year. Seniors will have the opportunity to sign up for a block (or blocks!) of time to work on their college applications in the HS Library. Students can choose a time on October 1, 2, or 3. In collaboration with the high school counselors, Mrs. Turi & Mrs. Rippey, Mrs. Campman will be available to help seniors complete their college applications. This also gives seniors the opportunity to have a block of uninterrupted time to work on their apps, knowing that there is support of a counselor available. On October 1 and October 3 during period 8 and block 4 (12:30 - 2:20) we will have an admissions representative from Bucknell University to give personalized, one-on-one feedback on students' college essays.
We will also have several local admissions representatives in to do "Instant Decision Days." For these events, seniors will find out if they are accepted to the representing college or university on the spot, after they complete their application. Seniors must sign up for these events separately by clicking below on the school(s) name/link in order to take part in Instant Decision Day(s). Participating schools are: Commonwealth University (October 1), Pennsylvania College of Technology (October 1), and Lycoming College (October 3).
Snacks will be provided for students to enjoy while they are working on their applications. 🙂
Where: HS Library, Computer Lab
When: October 1, 2, or 3 (Tuesday - Thursday)
Why Attend?
- Focused Time: Enjoy uninterrupted time to work on your college applications.
- Guidance: Get help from the counseling department to polish your apps.
- Snacks: Enjoy complimentary snacks while you work!
Important Note: Choose a time when you’re not missing a core class. If you need to miss any class, you must get permission from your teacher to attend.
College Essay Workshop
In collaboration with Lycoming College, we will be offering a College Essay Workshop for students in the Class of 2025. Students will need to sign up in advance using the QR code on the flyer. This will take place on Wednesday, October 16 in the Library. Seniors can sign up to attend during either block 1 or block 2. Students who attend can expect to get tips directly from an admissions counselor about how to make their college essay stand out to an admissions team. Mrs. Campman will also be available to help proofread and give thoughts and feedback.
What is Career Café?
Professionals from various careers within our community will come in to discuss their career with our middle and high school students during their lunch periods (and Lancer Period for HS students). Students are required to sign up for these events in advance. They can find the flyer/QR code to sign up outside of the HS & MS office, cafeteria, and guidance area.
Some things our guests might share during Career Cafe:

- What a typical work day looks like

- Important things students can do NOW to set themselves up for success in a similar career

WHEN: During student lunches with the likelihood of going into Lancer Period (for HS students only). Typically, at least one professional will visit every 2 weeks.
