CJUESD September Newsletter
Welcome Back!
Dear Capay Joint Union Elementary School District Families,
As we wrap up the month of August and settle into the rhythm of the new school year, I want to take a moment to express my gratitude, optimism, and excitement for the journey ahead. Our students and staff have been working diligently to build strong connections, fostering a positive and supportive school culture that will serve as the foundation for a successful year. Teachers and staff are currently assessing students to better understand their instructional and behavioral needs, using diagnostic data to tailor our approach for each child’s success.
We're thrilled to see Library, Art, and Music classes in full swing! These opportunities for creative expression are vital to our students' development, and we are fortunate to have such a dedicated team of elective teachers guiding them. A special thank you goes out to the Capay Rancho Women’s Club for their unwavering support of our library – we couldn’t do it without you!
On the PTO front, we’re excited about the upcoming Cookie Dough Fundraiser. Packets have been sent home for all grades, with the exception of 8th grade, whose packets will be distributed after Labor Day weekend. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Our PTO works tirelessly to support our students and staff throughout the year, and with your help, we can make this fundraiser a huge success!
Looking ahead, September promises to be an exciting month. I hope you all are enjoying a relaxing Labor Day weekend! Here are some important events to mark on your calendars:
Volleyball and Flag Football Practice begins on Tuesday, September 3rd, from 3-4 PM. Practices will be held every Tuesday and Thursday throughout the fall.
On Thursday morning, September 5th, we are honored to welcome Ross of School Life Attendance, who will deliver a motivational message to our students.
Friday, September 6th, our football and volleyball teams will face off against Plaza at home, with games starting at 1 PM.
September 12th will be a busy day: our 5th Graders will visit the Chico Nature Center, we’ll host Picture Day in the morning, and cap the day off with an exciting BMX Bike Show in the afternoon. It’s sure to be a fun-filled day!
September 18th, our 4th Graders will experience Farm Day – an educational and hands-on opportunity they won’t want to miss!
Thank you for your continued support and partnership as we work together to make this school year a memorable and successful one. Your involvement and enthusiasm make all the difference in creating a thriving school community.
Warm regards,
Tyler Rutledge

Exciting Updates!
We’re thrilled to share some fantastic improvements happening around our campus! The office now shines with a fresh coat of paint, giving it a welcoming and vibrant feel. Our kitchen and cafeteria beams have also received a makeover, adding a fresh new look that we absolutely love. And last but certainly not least, the Transitional Kindergarten (TK) room has been beautifully refreshed and is ready to inspire our youngest learners.
These updates are a true testament to what we can achieve when we come together with a shared vision. We couldn’t be happier with the results, and we’re excited for everyone to experience the new and improved spaces!
Tips to Establish Good Attendance Routines!
1. Establish a Consistent Routine:
- Set a Regular Bedtime: Ensure your child gets enough sleep by establishing a consistent bedtime. Well-rested children are more likely to wake up on time and feel ready for school.
- Morning Routine: Develop a predictable morning routine that includes time for breakfast, getting dressed, and gathering school supplies.
2. Emphasize the Importance of Attendance
- Talk About School: Regularly discuss the importance of school and how attendance affects learning. Let your child know that their presence in class is essential for their academic progress.
- Positive Reinforcement: Praise and reward good attendance. Celebrate small milestones, such as a full week of on-time attendance, to encourage continued commitment.
3. Address Health Concerns Proactively
- Healthy Habits: Encourage healthy eating, regular exercise, and good hygiene to reduce the likelihood of illness.
- Preventive Care: Stay up-to-date with medical check-ups to minimize absences due to preventable illnesses.
4. Stay Engaged with the School
- Communicate Regularly: Keep in touch with your child’s teachers to stay informed about their progress and any attendance concerns.
- Involvement in School Activities: Participate in school events and activities. Your involvement shows your child that you value their education.
5. Prepare for the Unexpected
- Backup Plans: Have a plan in place for transportation or childcare in case of emergencies that might otherwise prevent your child from attending school.
- Avoid Unnecessary Absences: Schedule non-urgent medical appointments and family trips outside of school hours or during school breaks.
6. Model Positive Behavior
- Lead by Example: Demonstrate the importance of commitment and responsibility in your own daily activities. Children are more likely to value attendance when they see these values reflected at home.
7. Set Goals and Monitor Progress
- Attendance Goals: Work with your child to set achievable attendance goals. Monitor their progress and discuss ways to overcome any challenges.
- Attendance Rewards: Consider setting up a reward system at home for maintaining good attendance, such as a special outing or extra screen time
8. Make School a Positive Experience
- Foster Excitement: Talk about the exciting aspects of school, such as learning new things, participating in activities, and making friends.
- Encourage Curiosity: Help your child develop a love for learning by encouraging their curiosity and supporting their academic interests.
By implementing these strategies, families can help ensure their children maintain positive attendance habits, setting them up for long-term academic success.
