Greetings Shaw Montessori,

It’s the 5 hens here this week. We understand that all of our other campus animal friends have written to you and we wanted to put in our clucks too!

Life without you here has just not been the same! We miss watching you during PE, while you play kickball, soccer, and run around on the field or relax on the bleachers with friends. And of course, we miss dodging the occasional ball that lands in our yard!

Everyday Mr. Neville comes and opens our coop each day so that we can stretch our legs, eat some bugs and enjoy the sunshine. In the afternoon Mr. Geno puts us back in our coop so that we are safe and can get back to the business of laying those beautiful eggs. They also make sure that we enjoy some of the greens that you planted in our garden.

Speaking of eggs, we know that you enjoy coming to gather the fruits of our labor—our eggs—for use in your classroom cooking projects. While you are not here we are giving our eggs to our weekend caretaker. She comes to check on us through the weekend and also brings us vegetable treats eggxactly like you used to!

We miss you very much and cannot wait to hear your merry voices and see your fun frolicking once again.

Conversation Starters

During this time with many of us home and in close quarters, it is easy to forget how to communicate effectively. Here are some simple conversation starters to open the lines of communication.

Get emoji-tional with us and #ThankATeacher during Staff Appreciation Week, May 4-8, 2020!

Teachers and School Staff change the lives of millions of children every day—their immense work and impact moves us beyond words, so sometimes we need emojis to say how we feel. And with the abrupt end to the physical school year, our teachers and staff members have done even more to continue education with virtual classrooms and learning at home lessons. All to ensure every student has the tools they need to reach their full potential.

Here are a few ways to show them we care. FYI – All staff email addresses are listed on their individualized Staff Favorite’s questionnaire included at the bottom of See Shaw Shine.

1. Email heartfelt letters, and messages of appreciation

2. Create artwork, poems and/or video messages to celebrate the staff

3. Send an eCard or virtual award from sites like smilebox or jibjab

4. Send a picture of a handmade gift that can be delivered to the staff in the fall

5. Send an eGift card for a food delivery service - Doordash, Grubhub, Postmates

6. Purchase an online gift card

• a. Supporting local business like Changing Hands Bookstore
• b. Support local restaurants like Pizzeria Bianco, Copper Star Coffee

In regards to refunds:

Tax Credits cannot be refunded.

If you are interested in a refund to any “Gifts and Donations” payments made , please email Christina Girard, Office Manager Christina.Girard@Phxschools.org to start this process.

If you are not interested in a refund, and would like to roll over any field trip payments made for your student next year, please let me know that as well. Thank you!
