MHS STUDENT & FAMILY NEWSLETTER
Week of January 1 - January 3, 2025
RSU 57 & Massabesic High School
"Preparing students for success in an ever-changing world."
Hello Mustang Nation,
Happy New Year to all our students and families! I sincerely hope the time away from campus has been restful and enjoyable. I know that I have appreciated the time away to recharge the batteries, so to speak, and spend time catching up with family and friends.
We return for a very quick week on Thursday and Friday of this week - I believe this will be a nice opportunity for us to get back into the swing of things before a full week back. Please note that Semester 1 ends on Friday, January 24 and we will conduct a Finals Week from Tuesday, January 21-24. Semester 2 begins on Monday, January 27 as a Green Day. A full schedule of the Finals Week is located below in the newsletter.
As a reminder, our upcoming week will follow the Green/White color rotation schedule below:
Wednesday 01/01 - Happy New Year!!
Thursday 01/02 - WHITE
Friday 01/03 - GREEN
Take care,
-Mr. Thurlow
MHS Graduates Panel - A Great Success!
On Thursday, December 19 MHS hosted a graduate panel that went extremely well. Our MHS graduates showed up on time and were open and honest with their responses. It was great to hear about their experiences entering the military, the workforce, or college. The varied experiences, locations, majors, and extra-curricular activities gave students a lot to think about. They shared their experiences post-graduation, what courses and programs at MHS helped them reach their goals, what they wish they knew, and offered advice to our upperclassmen.
The seniors and juniors in attendance were well-behaved and asked insightful questions. I'm thrilled we were able to bring this tradition back to MHS.
Our esteemed panelists are listed and pictured below:
Information for the College-Bound Athlete!
Do you think you might play NCAA Division I or II sports in college? If so, you need to register with the NCAA and need to academically prepare so that you will be eligible to play sports at the level. Do you want to play NCAA Division III sports in college? While not required to register with the NCAA, the NCAA website has information about college athletics that can be helpful to you as well. This link will provide a simple handout regarding the Initial-Eligibility Standards for the NCAA. More in-depth information on what is needed to become an NCAA college athlete can be found in the 2024-25 Guide for the College-Bound Student-Athlete. Want another source of information? The NCAA recorded a webinar that can be viewed at your convenience to help people understand the NCAA Initial Eligibility process. If you think college athletics are in your future, be sure to check out the information the NCAA provides.
