I have been working with the staff at Ripton to tighten our recess expectations and look at our logical consequences documents in order to ensure everyone knows them, agrees with them and can use them. I have also spent time in classrooms talking about recess and the expectations. This week we only offered one competitive activity each day. My ultimate goal is to provide safe, supervised, fun activities for all students. As we finalize our documents I will include them in my newsletter for your information as well.
Classroom News
This week the students in fourth and fifth grade are learning about the three branches of government and how they work for our Democracy unit. They read different articles about the government and reported to the other groups about what they read. Then they watched a video that went into detail about the function of each branch and their checks and balances. The government is purposely designed so that one section does not acquire too much power.
