CONGRATS MS. KOEHN -
Congratulations to Sarah Koehn, theater teacher at Andover High School, for being named one of three 2022 Wolfe Teaching Excellence Award winners from the University of Kansas School of Education! KU students can nominate teachers from around the world "who have encouraged and positively influenced them to dream, aspire and persevere."
Paul Turner, a 2018 AHS graduate, nominated Ms. Koehn. He wrote: "Sarah Koehn is the most outstanding teacher that I have ever known. She has had an unbelievable impact on my life, as well as the lives of countless other students. Ms. Koehn is also an incredible leader, and a mentor to generations of students. Her leadership and mentorship abilities started with the respect and esteem she had for her students. She saw potential in everyone. ... She is a superlative teacher, director and human being."
Ms. Koehn will be honored alongside the other two recipients at KU's Commencement celebration weekend in May. She will receive a $3,000 award and the school will receive a $1,000 award. Way to go, Ms. Koehn!
LIGHT THE NIGHT -
National Honor Society is proud to present Light the Night -A lantern-lit and festivity-filled nighttime fundraiser. Light the Night is a celebration of light to drive out the darkness of cancer. Please join us at Trojan Stadium from 5:00-9:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 9 for this family-friendly event filled with carnival and yard games, a walk around the track with lanterns in honor of those fighting cancer, and the opportunity to raise money and spread awareness for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Community members are encouraged to create their own teams to raise money prior to the event. To create your own team, join the Andover High Team, or make an individual donation prior to the event, please click here. If you would like to sponsor our event with a monetary or in-kind donation, please contact Meredith Mendenhall.

Graduation Requirements Survey
We need your feedback.
At the June 2021 Kansas State Board of Education meeting, Commissioner of Education Randy Watson announced the establishment of a Graduation Requirements Task Force, which include members of the State Board of Education, business leaders, curriculum directors, high school principals, counselors, teachers, KSHSAA, local boards of education and superintendents, charged with examining graduation requirements in Kansas from at least three different lenses:
- Additional courses or deletion of courses required for graduation (if any).
- Examination of competencies and multiple ways to show mastery of skills which allow students to move at their own pace and time.
- Examination of any additional requirements in addition to the high school diploma (value-added assets such as industry recognized certificate, college credits, etc.)
Today, we’re asking for your feedback to help guide the work of this group. Please use the QR code provided below and included in the attached document to complete a short survey regarding your thoughts on Kansas’ high school graduation requirements. The deadline to submit feedback is April 15.

The 3rd SAFE drawing sign up will be next week March 29 and 30. Students who pledge to wear their seat belts and not text and drive will be entered into a drawing to win a $25 VISA gift card.
The 4th SAFE drawing will be the following week. Look for the distracted driving demo car (outside 1200 hall), and an opportunity to sign up to win $25 Visa gift cards. Please buckle up, every trip, every time, and do not text and drive.
