EAGLE SPOTLIGHTS 🦅
CIS MHS/MES Mentorship Program
Our Eagles Mentors met their mentees at MES on Tuesday! They were warmly welcomed by Ms. Smith, CIS Student Support Coordinator at the elementary, who prepared a great lunch and treats for this introductory and welcome session.
Our students went through an initial training the week before hosted by Ms. Haïette. Mentors to be Chloe, Scar, Antonio, Adam, Keshon, and returning mentor Angel brainstormed on what makes a good mentor. We reviewed essential rules and tips to always keep in mind when mentoring, and enjoyed hearing Scar's experience as a camp counselor.
Our mentors met with their little mentees: Zoey, Darien, Linkin, Oliver, Kerrigan, Kyzer and Chase. We introduced each other, and connected through fun activities, including a Skittles Getting To Know You game. This program will occur biweekly on Tuesdays during A lunch and part of 4th hour, as long as our mentors continue to daily showcase how amazing they are. We're very excited and proud to have our Eagles support our Eaglets and help them be the best version of themselves!
7th Hour / Tutoring - Tuesdays and Thursdays
Ms. Sandy, our returning CIS Math tutor will help our students during 7th hour on Thursdays, and Sergeant Wynne will often help out our team on some Tuesdays. Thank you to our amazing volunteers for giving their time to support our students! We're grateful to have you!
Students with a credit recovery goal who attend at least 80% of 7th hour will monthly be rewarded with pizza, compliments of our Communities in Schools partner!
Next Level Scholars
Our Senior Eagle members of Detroit Regional Next Level Scholars participated at "Apply!" a college and career expo hosted at Wayne State University. Students attended the expo with more than 30 schools in attendance and spoke with their admissions reps. They also attended sessions on financial literacy and scholarships. It truly was a knowledgeable day!
Art Expressions
The past two weeks have been filled with creativity by our Eagles in their Art Expressions sessions. Last week students created 'All About Me Jigsaw Puzzles' with different textures and colors and labeled each piece with an interest or hobby they enjoy. This week students worked on detailed drawings of their Spirit Animals, choosing one animal or creature that most inspires them.
