Students First, Every Day!
Dear White Oak Community,
I hope this weekly newsletter finds you doing well and enjoying the beautiful weather. Yesterday, our Junior Olympics Team represented White Oak at the district wide event at Simi Valley High School. It was a great day! We hope the students had so much fun. Thank you to everyone who came out to support our olympians. A HUGE shout out to Amanda Deeds, Sara McGinnis, and Jordana Ross for all your hard work pulling this together for our students. Thank you as well to all the coaches and parent volunteers- this could not have happened without every single one of you. Go Team White Oak!
Please remember that this Thursday, April 17 is OPEN HOUSE at White Oak! We hope ALL families will come see how hard our students have been working! Families are invited to come to school between 5:00-6:00 p.m. for a picnic on the front lawn. Bring your own blankets, chairs, and food and eat amongst friends. Classrooms will then be open from 6:00-7:00 p.m. Don't miss out on the biggest night of the year!
Finally, please note there is NO SCHOOL this Friday, April 18. Enjoy the 3-day weekend!
Cheers to Week 32. It's GREAT to be a WILDCAT!
Warmly,
Jen Culbertson

3rd, 4th, and 5th Grade Parents- We Need Your Help!
Check your child's backpack for a very important envelope that should have come home on Friday! Our 3rd-5th grade students will be taking the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) soon. We are very proud of the effort and dedication all of our students have put forth this school year.
As parents, you have been a very important and very powerful influence on how your child has progressed. For this reason, we are asking that you take a few minutes to write a short message of support and encouragement to your child. He or she will read it just before testing begins. Your encouraging words will help your son or daughter stay confident and positive each day!
Once you have completed the note, please return it to your child's teacher or Mrs. Culbertson in the provided SEALED envelope by Friday, April 25. Put your child’s first and last name on the front of the envelope. Remember this is a SURPRISE and the children have no clue what is going on!

Our APRIL Character Trait is Commitment!
We are excited to announce that the character trait of the month for April is "Commitment."
What is Commitment?
Commitment is the dedication and loyalty to a cause, task, or goal. It involves staying true to your promises and responsibilities, even when faced with challenges or obstacles.
What Does Commitment Look Like?
Commitment can be seen when students persist in their efforts to achieve their goals, follow through on their commitments, and demonstrate perseverance in the face of difficulties.
How Students Can Show Commitment:
- Completing tasks and assignments on time.
- Setting and working towards academic and personal goals.
- Showing up prepared and ready to participate in activities.
- Being reliable and responsible in group projects and collaborations.
How Parents Can Help and Model Commitment at Home:
- Encourage your child to set achievable goals and support them in working towards these goals.
- Praise and acknowledge their efforts and commitment in various activities.
- Teach the value of perseverance and resilience when faced with challenges.
- Model commitment by fulfilling your own commitments and responsibilities, showing your child the importance of dedication and follow-through.
By instilling the value of commitment in our students, we are helping them develop essential life skills that will serve them well in their academic and personal endeavors. Thank you for your continued support in reinforcing these character traits both at school and at home.
EVERY School Day Counts! Help Us FINISH STRONG!
Attendance Matters! Arrive On Time!
Please call the school office at (805) 520-6617 to report your child's absence each and every day they are absent.
- Remember, you have 5 days to clear your student's absence by calling the school or emailing the office.
- Taking trips and vacations during school days is considered unexcused absences.
- Under state law, a student who, without a valid excuse, is absent from school for three full days in one school year, or is tardy or absent for more than 30 minutes during the school day on three occasions in one school year, is considered truant.
Parking Lot Safety Reminders for ALL Parents
We need your help to keep drop off and pick up safe and smooth! All adult behaviors, including driving behaviors, serve as role models for our students. Respectful speaking and responsible actions are safety requirements for everyone using the parking lot.
Cars are to proceed in a single file to the drop off/pick up area (almost at the exit of the parking lot near Alscot). Parents should remain in their car and not get out to open the trunk or car doors. Children should enter and exit from the right side passenger doors once the car has come to a complete stop. They should be carrying their own backpack and other supplies. If your child needs extra assistance with their belongings, please plan on parking on the street and not entering the parking lot.
WHEN DROPPING OFF YOUR CHILD IN THE MORNING, PULL UP TO THE ORANGE CONE (almost at the exit of the parking lot). Your child should stay in the car until you get to the orange cone. Please be patient. Having your child get out of the car before the orange cone causes back ups. Thank you for helping make drop off smooth and safe!
THERE IS NO PARENT PARKING IN THE MAIN PARKING LOT. Parents entering the school with their child MUST park on the street and walk in. Thank you for your support.
Make Sure Your Child Has HEADPHONES at School!
Toys and Games
Apple Watch Reminders
All students that wear Apple Watches to school must have phone capabilities and other notifications turned off during school hours (8:15-2:24 p.m.). This is the same rule for cell phones. Thank you for reminding your student(s).
Safety First!
