April 11, 2025
From the Principal's Desk...
Miller Families:
Our Bobcats have been busy the last few weeks! Spring is always the time of year where we get to see our students showcased in so many ways. In the past month or so, we have seen our students soar in Robotics, Junior Varsity Quiz, Science Olympiad, and Spelling Bee. Our Performing Arts Department has been rocking out with their festivals and other performances as Choir, Orchestra, and Band have all received exemplary marks. Our athletics department has had a busy spring with volleyball and soccer having four teams in the thick of the playoff race for the Southeast Division. We are so proud of all of our Bobcats!
SBAC testing continues this week wit the ELA CAT test. Students take the exam over a series of three days (Monday-Wednesday) with their ELA teachers.
Next week, we host our monthly Parent Information Meeting on Tuesday, April 15, 2025 at 1 PM via Google Meet. Please join us to connect with your administrative team and get updates about the end of the year activities.
For our Bobcats, soccer and volleyball each play one game, our 8th graders travel to the House of the Mouse in the annual Disneyland Field Trip, and the Jazz Band performs in their pre-festival concert at Coronado.
Here's to another busy and incredible week on the Miller campus!

SBAC Testing Season
Beginning April 2, Bob Miller Middle School students will take the Smarter Balanced Online Assessment (SBAC). Eighth graders will also take the Criterion-Referenced Test (CRT) in Science.
This year all tests have been shortened in the amount of test questions asked. Essentially, the amount of questions asked in each test have been cut in half. Rather than students having to answer 40 test questions, they are now only answering 20-25 test questions. Another change to testing this year at Bob Miller MS is that the ELA and Math CAT tests will be taken in students’ individual ELA and Math classes with the teachers they are familiar with.
These tests measure individual student achievement in the areas of reading, writing, mathematics, and science. The results of these tests are also used to determine the school’s star ratings according to the Nevada School Performance Framework. If students miss an assessment, they will make it up during a makeup day. The district does recognize opting out of testing. If your child needs additional assistance in taking the test, please contact our school's testing department and we can make necessary arrangements.
Students will complete the tests on their school-issued Chromebooks. It is imperative that every student bring his/her Chromebook to school every day, fully charged. Additionally, portions of the English Language Arts assessment will require students to use headphones/earbuds. Please ensure that your son or daughter brings wired headphones/earbuds to testing.
To ensure that we assess your child’s performance accurately, we are asking for your assistance. First, it is essential that your son/daughter attend school on the days the tests are being administered. It is important that your son/daughter have a good night’s sleep, eat a nutritious breakfast, and arrive at school on time. We encourage you to discuss the tests at home, to encourage your son/daughter to do his/her best, and to assure him/her that the results are primarily used to determine where additional help may be needed. Test scores may be often used to determine future course placement.

Exciting Update to Our End-of-Year Awards Ceremonies
We are thrilled to share an update regarding our 6th and 7th Grade Awards Ceremonies. Based on valuable feedback from our Miller community, we will now celebrate our 6th, 7th, and 8th-grade students on the same day this year, May 14, 2025.
This new structure allows us to recognize all of our students' achievements while keeping the 8th-grade evening ceremony extra-special for our high school bound 8th graders. It also gives us the opportunity to celebrate our 6th and 7th graders in individual ceremonies, rather than a single combined event as in previous years. The awards will be presented in our school gym as follows:
6th Grade Ceremony – 9:00 AM - 10:30 AM
7th Grade Ceremony – 12:30 PM - 2:00 PM
8th Grade Ceremony – 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM
Families of students receiving awards are warmly invited to attend and celebrate these incredible students. We are sharing this update well in advance to allow time for you to plan accordingly.
Ceremonies are by invitation only, and our 6th and 7th grade students will be recognized with the following awards:
Straight A’s
Teacher Awards
Grade-Level Award
GRIT Award
Be Kind Award
We look forward to honoring our hardworking students and celebrating their achievements together! If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
E-Bike Safety: Ride Smart
As e-bikes become increasingly popular, it's crucial for our community to be informed about their safe and responsible use, especially for students. E-bike education helps ensure that children understand the safety protocols, traffic laws, and proper maintenance practices associated with these vehicles. Family involvement is equally important, as parents play a key role in making informed decisions about whether an e-bike is the right choice for their child. Please take some time to read the Safe Routes to School e-bike newsletter. If you have any questions, please contact the Safe Routes to School department at 799-0303 EX 5135.
Foothill Color Guard Tryouts
Foothill High School will hold their color guard tryouts from April 23-25, 2025. They will take place between 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM each day. For more information, please reach out to the school. To learn more about color guard, watch THIS VIDEO.
NJHS Baby Diaper Drive
NJHS is giving back to our community by hosting a Diaper Drive to support Baby’s Bounty of Nevada!
The club is collecting all sizes of diapers to help families and new parents in need. Your generosity will make a real difference for families in Southern Nevada. See the flyer below for more information.
Important Reminder - Student Dismissal Expectations
We have noticed that again an increasing number of students remaining in front of the school after the end of the instructional day. Many of these students are lingering to socialize without involved in an on campus activity or working with a teacher.
To ensure a safe and orderly environment, please note the following expectations:
- All students not participating in after-school activities must clear campus by 2:30 PM.
- Students participating in after-school activities must clear campus by 3:30 PM.
- Students attending a sporting event or evening activity must clear campus within 15 minutes of the conclusion of that event.
If transportation cannot be arranged for your student within these times, consider utilizing Henderson Teen Scene, a great resource for supervised after-school care. This service takes place ON CAMPUS and is facilitated by our community partners at Henderson Parks and Recreation.
Your child's safety remains our utmost priority. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding as we work to maintain a secure campus environment.
Attention 8th Graders & Families
There are so many exciting and informative events coming up—don’t miss out! Check out the flyer below for important dates to mark on your calendar.

Student Absence Notifications
Bob Miller Middle School uses an automated system to call home when students are reported absent or tardy from a single period during the school day. The purpose of this recorded message is to remind parents to send in an absence note to the school’s attendance office.
The preferred way to notify the school when your child is absent is to fill out the online absence note found on the school's website at bobmillerms.com or the above link. Please allow 24-48 hours for processing. Parents/guardians will most likely still receive a phone call, text, and/or email from the school notifying them of their child's absence even after you fill out this form. If the absence is still not updated in Infinite Campus after 48 hours, please contact our attendance clerk, Jeannie Galvin, via email at galvijd@nv.ccsd.net or by phone at (702) 799-2260, extension 4300. If you are unable to access the online absence note, please send a written note with your child's full name to be turned into the basket located in the Counseling Office. Please do not send absence notes in via email as this may results in a delayed response.
Every Day Matters Campaign
During the previous academic year, the Clark County School District (CCSD) experienced a chronic absenteeism rate of 36 percent. That means one out of every three students was absent from school 10 percent or more of enrolled days for any reason.
Why it matters: It’s an issue we must address head-on and with urgency. When students miss classroom instruction, it hurts their student success, affecting their grades and social development.
But there is encouraging news we would like to share. CCSD has launched a campaign, Every Day Matters, that will use a strategic approach to improve student attendance.
This campaign will be a communitywide effort, involving nonprofit organizations, businesses, and local governments that partner with CCSD. For us to get students to regularly attend school, however, the fact is it will depend on you and your child.
In the weeks and months ahead, our school and CCSD will be offering tips and strategies that you can use to get your child excited about going to school. If you are concerned about your child’s attendance, request a meeting with school counselors or an administrator so we can work on making progress.
For information on CCSD attendance policies and resources, visit everyday.ccsd.net
