New Zealand Curriculum Refresh
Kia ora koutou,
On Monday we were really grateful to be granted a Teacher Only Day by the Ministry of Education to look at the New Zealand Curriculum Refresh.
Our teachers were able to spend the day reviewing our own curriculum - Te Marautanga o Puketapu - and how we can strengthen and align this guiding document to the refreshed New Zealand Curriculum.
The Ministry is two years into a six-year programme to refresh The New Zealand Curriculum which will support every ākonga (learner) to experience success in their learning. It will give effect to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and will be inclusive, clear about the learning that matters, and easy to use from year 0 to year 13.
The refreshed curriculum content is being developed and released in phases and schools and kura will have until the beginning of 2027 to start using the fully refreshed curriculum.
Here are some links you may want to check out to be further informed on the NZ Curriculum Refresh:

We are looking forward to our second Teachers Only Day for the New Zealand Curriculum Refresh which will be in Term 4. We will communicate those dates with you once we have confirmed them.

Staff Announcements
It is with mixed emotions we announce two staff changes happening at the end of this term.
After more than 27 years as part of our school, Miss Sattler will be moving to Whangārei to start a new exciting phase of her life.
Over the course of this term we will be sharing some memories of Miss Sattler's time at Puketapu School - starting with this one: her first Puketapu School Staff Photo from way back in 1996...
It might be 27 years ago but Miss Sattler still looks the same!
Whaea Rachel has resigned from her teaching position with us as she has secured a job with West End School, which is much closer to home and means she is more able to support her whānau.
We are grateful for Whaea Rachel's time and effort in educating so many of our junior tamariki over the past three years and we wish her all the best at her new school. We will all miss her wonderful smile and sense of fun.
We are currently in the process of finding a replacement teacher for Whaea Rachel's class and will keep you updated.
For Whaea Holly's class, we are finalising details and will update her class next week.

duffy in school
On Tuesday our friends at Duffy treated our Juniors to the 2023 Duffy Theatre show
'Duffy Needs His Space'
This year, Duffy needs his space. He finds plenty of it, when his allergy-prone
little cousin, Stuffy, sneezes so hard a rift in time and space opens creating a
wormhole! Equipped with a pile of school library books on te tātai tuarangi (the
cosmos), Duffy heads bravely through the wormhole into a parallel universe.
With the help of alien buddies Duffzip and Stuffzip, and using the knowledge he
gleans from his books, Duffy leaps in and out of new worlds, until he finds his
way home. Duffy realises that life on Earth may be messy, stressful, and tricky
sometimes, but... kia mau ki te tokanga nui a noho. There’s no place like home.
We asked some of our Rimu tamariki what their favourite part of the show was:
Leysa Wall-Colvin- "The aliens were so cool"
Kaia Smith- "The noodles and he tricked us with them"
Zoey Haylock- "The aliens were funny"
Eastyn Taiawa-Mcleod- "I was laughing lots at the aliens"
Blake Kenny- "I liked the portal and the aliens"
Halo Makiri-Watson- "Duffy went to space then woke up and went through the hole"
Panapa Tangiia- "I laughed lots, there was so much laughing"
Thank you Duffy Theatre for a great show!

In Whaea Kelly's class:
As part of our kaupapa this term 'To infinity and beyond' we were hooked in by travelling to space to start our exploration. Soooo.... of course we had to build rockets! We explored Newtons Third law - that every action has an equal and opposite reaction.
We used a hydropod launcher to send our rockets sky high. We had to fill them 1/3 with water and then pump air into the bottles.
We were so excited moving to a safe zone and counting down before Whaea Kelly released the safety. 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 Blast off!

The rain stayed away on Wednesday for us to enjoy a quick assembly together.

a message from npdc - ROUNDABOUT CLOSURE
UPCOMING ROAD CLOSURE:
Mangati Road at the intersection of Parkland Avenue
Monday 22 May to Saturday 22 July 2023
To help improve the safety of road users at the Bell Block intersection of Parklands Avenue and Mangati Road, in April 2021 NPDC trialled a temporary roundabout at the intersection. Feedback from Bell Block residents has been positive, noting an easier traffic flow through the Parklands/Mangati intersection with the trial roundabout in place.
Downer, on behalf of the New Plymouth Infrastructure Partnership, will be undertaking works to install a roundabout at the intersection of Mangati Road and Parkland Avenue from Monday 22 May for approximately 9-10 weeks (weather permitting). The site and detour is shown on the attached map.
To complete the work as safely and efficiently as possible, the work will be completed under a full road closure.
- The intersection of Mangati Road and Parklands Avenue will be closed 24/7 from Monday 22 May to Saturday 22 July
- Road users are asked to plan ahead and take alternative routes where possible
- Alternative routes will be clearly signposted for the duration of the closure
- Access to the properties along Mangati Road and Parklands Avenue will be maintained at all times. If access to your property is limited during the works, and you need to travel, please speak with one of our onsite crew and they will assist you.
For any queries regarding these works please contact NPDC on 06-759 6060.
