October 2013
What An Amazing Month for Readers!
October brought us some very special events. Kate Messner gave out 20 free copies of Capture the Flag and family passes to the Lincoln Book Festival. Dan Santat, author of Sidekicks, came to visit HMS. And many students had books signed by authors at the Lincoln Book Festival. What a fantastic opportunity to meet these talented, funny, kind people in person!

Letters About Literature
From the read.gov website: Letters About Literature is a reading and writing contest for students in grades 4-12. Students are asked to read a book, poem or speech and write to that author (living or dead) about how the book affected them personally. Letters are judged on state and national levels. Tens of thousands of students from across the country enter Letters About Literature each year. If you are in grades 4-12, you are eligible to enter the Letters About Literature reading and writing contest Entries are due by January 10, 2014.
Check out read.gov for the contest rules and guidelines.
I am meeting students in the library on Thursday mornings from 8:25-8:50am starting in November. Students are welcome to come for a place to work, discuss their work, and get feedback.
