Parents and Guardians,
We are excited to announce the acquisition of School Messenger, a schoolwide mass communication system!!! Starting on Monday, you will receive automatic notification when your student is absent or tardy. We will also be able to send out communication when the school closes unexpectedly, important reminders, and upcoming events. We are VERY excited to be able to offer this!! Your student is bringing the flyer below home. Thank you for partnering with us in this effort to communicate more fluidly with each other.
In observance of Veterans Day this coming Monday, we would like to say THANK YOU to our Kingsland Laker family members who have served in the United States Armed Forces.

B.U.I.L.D. "Confidence"
Confidence is a feeling of security in our capabilities.
Confidence is not attained once you arrive at a destination, it is obtained as we build upon it along the way through our experiences, effort, and diligence.
B- Believe: Our thoughts lead to beliefs and success is often measured based upon the quality of our thought life. We find what we seek, and believer everything we tell ourselves, so we must confront negative thoughts and be intentful to replace them with productive ones.
U-Understand your weaknesses: Knowing where we can improve and where we have limitations will help us establish a foundation to build upon. An honest look into ourselves to improve is not having a low self esteem, but identifying areas where we can improve and having the courage to do so.
I- Identify your strengths: Most people focus on their weaknesses and exude themselves from the possibility of failure. Operating in your strengths and knowing what you are good at is important to build a healthy acceptance of what you offer the world.
L- Lies: Confront the lies you tell yourself that your "not good enough" or will "mess up". Establing a positive regard for yourself will require you to dismiss negative thoughts and false perceptions about yourself.
D- Determination: Focus on the NOW and what you have power to do. You can't participate in the unknown of the future, but right now you can plan and prepare and take one step at a time toward the goal. It's not about arriving at a destination, but doing your best along the journey and refusing to give up.

From the Cafeteria: Vote for your Favorite Pickle
Lunch Monitor Terri Schexnayder ("Ms. S") encouraged her cafeteria crowds to join in Election Week. K-2 suggested "pickles" as the food category on which to vote. The "Sour" pickle winner squeaked by "Dill" by one vote. Third and fourth graders decided "apples" were worthy candidates, and "Red/Delicious" was victorious. Clearly, good nutrition plays a key role in community choices!

This Week's Happenings
Fictional Characters Come to Life
Using an index card game, the Creative Writing Club students, led by author Terri Schexnayder, generated a lead character for their stories. The game goes: "Write down the name of your pet; then pass the card to the right. Now, write the street on which you live (pick one word from your street name). Pass card to right. Your third selection is the last name of your favorite teacher. Look at your three-word name!" Imagine what writing magic will come from developing a character named "Cream-Sickle Tiny Little." Stay tuned.
