Heritage Happenings
October 2024
October 22, 2024
Dear Heritage Families,
We are excited about the upcoming parent-teacher conferences, which will be held on October 29 and 30, 2024. We value the partnerships we have with our families and believe that these conferences are a great opportunity to connect and discuss your child's progress.
Student leadership roles are well underway, and we are proud of the way our students are taking on these important responsibilities. Our students are thriving, and we are committed to providing them with a supportive and engaging learning environment.
With your help, our students raised $25,700.87 during the recent PTA fundraising event. As a result, the admin team transformed into "bears" to reward their hard work and exceeding the goal. Thank you for your continued support of our school.
We look forward to seeing you at the conferences!
Warmest regards,
Your Admin Team

End of Day Reminders
In the effort to ensure everyone gets home safely and avoid any unnecessary confusion, we ask that parents picking up students at the end of the day do so before 2:45 p.m. It is very challenging to make last minute calls after this time to change end of day transportation and ensure students get to the correct place prior to dismissal procedures start. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Attendance
Thank you for contacting the office when your child is absent. Please be sure to leave the reason for the absence so staff an properly code their attendance.
Ways to report an absence:
- Call the attendance line 636-327-3846 & press 1 (for attendance)
- Email the attendance email at attendance.heritage@wsdr4.org
The absence will be recorded as unexcused if a note or telephone call is not received.
Excusable Absences Include
- Illness of the student (Doctor's statement may be required to support such absences).
- Days of religious observance.
- Death in the family.
- Professional appointment (such as a lawyer, doctor or counselor appointment).
- Birth of a sibling.
- Military deployment of parent, grandparent or sibling.
Unexcused Absences:
Absences which do not fall in the categories listed above generally will not be considered to be excused.
School officials can intervene to encourage the student’s future attendance when the student has excessive unexcused absences. To “Intervene” means to identify the reasons for the student’s continued absence and to develop a plan in conjunction with the student and their parent or legal guardian, to improve the student’s future attendance.
The district designees for the implementation of this policy are the school principals and guidance counselors.
Intervention:
The district plan for improving students’ attendance shall include, but is not limited to:
Establish reasons for excessive absences.
Identify a method to resolve the cause of unexcused absences (i.e., influence change in environment, group or individual counseling, parent conference, etc.).
Notify the County Juvenile Court/Truancy Officer and/or the Missouri Department of Social Services for appropriate action in the event the unexcused absences continue.
RSP - Reading Success Plan
This fall, teachers and reading interventionists will be conducting reading assessments with all students. These assessments help us plan lessons and identify students who might benefit from extra reading support. In addition, our building reading specialists will work with small groups of students. These flexible groupings are not the same as Reading Intervention, families will be contacted directly by their child's teacher if he/she qualifies for Reading Intervention.
If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to your child's classroom teacher.
Leader in Me - Habit 1
We are excited to begin our Leader in Me Habit lessons this month for the Seven Habits for Happy Kids. This month Heritage Bears are learning about Habit 1: Be Proactive. Be Proactive empowers us with the principles of responsibility, choice, accountability, initiative, and resourcefulness. We know that we can have a “can do” attitude and always try our best at everything we do. We can follow directions and do the right thing without being asked, even when no one is watching. We can choose our actions, attitudes, and moods and we don’t blame others for our wrongdoings. You can click the link to learn more about this habit and how you can foster this habit at home. Link to Habit 1: Taking it Home
Habit 2
Habit 2: Begin with the End in Mind **"Have a Plan!"**
Habit 2 is all about setting goals and making a plan to achieve them. When we "Begin with the End in Mind," we think about what we want to accomplish before starting an activity. Talk with your child about setting simple goals, like completing homework before playtime or cleaning up toys after playing. When children have a clear vision of their goals, they can work toward them with purpose.

In Case You Missed It - More from WSD
WSD Launches Comprehensive Approach to Student Success
This year, the WSD is thrilled to implement a comprehensive, integrated model of prevention (Ci3T) district-wide. This innovative approach is designed to provide your child with the support they need to thrive, both academically and socially.
What does this mean for your student? You may hear our staff discuss Ci3T and the different levels of support we offer during parent-teacher conferences, progress updates, school newsletters, and other communications. These tiers are tailored to your child’s individual needs. We look forward to the positive impact Ci3T will have on your student’s education and overall well-being. Click here or watch this video to learn more.
Are you missing emails from the Wentzville School District or your child's teacher?
If you're not receiving emails from WSD staff or schools, they might be landing in your spam folder. Learn more on how to fix that. You'll want to make sure you familiarize yourself with the district email domain: All district emails are delivered from: noreply@sis.wsdr4.org.
Important: In Focus, not all emails allow replies, depending on who sent them. Teacher communication: You can reply to emails from your student’s teacher(s). School / District communication: These emails may not receive replies directly and you may need to contact them directly.
Wentzville Wow Factor Award
Has your child's teacher made a significant impact on their education and life? Do you want to recognize a staff member who goes above and beyond? The WSD rolled out a new way to honor our staff, and it only takes a few minutes to do.
