ROISD Canvas Parent Account

ROISD uses the Canvas Learning Management system as an online tool for teachers and students to communicate, post information, create and submit assignments, and much more for grades 3-12. Parents can create an "Observer" account to view what is happening in their child's Canvas courses. Please note Skyward is the official gradebook for a cumulative class average. Although Canvas does allow for assignments with grades, students are also completing work in class in a variety of modes that contribute to the overall student class average in Skyward.

ROISD technology creates student Canvas accounts and loads their classes onto their account prior to the first day of school. Students access Canvas by using ClassLink and their network login credentials. Students then choose the Canvas icon on their ClassLink dashboard.

• Set up notification preferences (due dates, when an assignment is late and/or graded, etc.)
• View dashboard, campus and course announcements, assignments, quizzes, etc. once items are published by the instructor
• View files (unless they are locked by instructor)
  
• View and filter your student's grades, scores and dates*
  
• View course content and see due dates, point values, rubrics, etc.

*Skyward is the official gradebook as other work is taking place to account for a student's overall class average.

• View work by students other than their own
• Comment on announcements or discussions
  
• Submit assignments or quizzes
  
• View course rosters
• View locked or unpublished content
  
• Join groups

Parents can download the Canvas Parent Mobile App to create a parent Canvas account and set up notifications to be sent directly to their phone via the app. The Parent app is the blue Canvas App. See instructions below for setting up a parent account via the mobile app. * You will still need a pairing code from the set of instructions above.
