The Renton High School
Weekly Update 9.6.2024
Happy Friday, RedHawkS!
I hope this finds you well. As we finish another week at Renton High School, we continue to be excited about the work we are doing together to build upon the strong and positive start to the school year. Last week ended with an exciting and spirit-filled Welcome Back assembly hosted by our amazing ASB student leaders under the direction of our Activities Coordinator, Ms. McCullough. Our new ASB officers were introduced, and I even dressed up as our mascot, Ramon the RedHawk, to welcome everyone to a new school year. We were also treated to a Tinikling performance by our Filipino Student Union, and we watched a staff versus student basketball game. As our administrative team made our way around the building and into classrooms this week, we were thrilled to see our dedicated staff leading authentic community building activities and focusing on high quality instruction to get students excited about and engaged in their content. Please see the important information below and as always, we welcome and appreciate your feedback and ideas.
It's a wonderful day to be a RedHawk!
- Mr. O'Connell

Student Handbook Information
Earlier today, we held a school wide, virtual assembly to go over the student handbook and to cover our expectations for all RedHawkS. As we all strive to demonstrate the cornerstone values of our school community of Pride, Tradition and Excellence, we are sharing this presentation with you as well. We hold high expectations for our students while they are in our halls and classrooms, while engaging in extracurricular opportunities and when in the community. We reminded our students that they represent RHS and that many generations of RHS grads have come before us. We all have a duty to represent the RHS family with the utmost integrity and it is with that spirit that we explained our expectations.
Trimester 1 Schedule Changes
If your student would like to request a schedule change, they must be received by September 12. All requests must be submitted using the Schedule Change Request Form. A request for a schedule change is not a guarantee that the request will be honored.
Diversity Calendar
As a diverse, multicultural, and international school, Renton High School wants to acknowledge as many cultural celebrations in our community as possible. If you would like us to recognize an upcoming cultural celebration, please contact Mr. Collie, our IB Coordinator.
Enkutatash, Ethiopian and Eritrean New Year is celebrated on 11th September.
No Cell, Bell to Bell
In our effort to maximize focused learning time in our classrooms, we have implemented a No Cell, Bell to Bell policy at Renton High School. This means that all students are expected to keep their cell phones away, silent and out of sight during instructional time. While we are teaching our students how to meet this expectation, we also appreciate your support as a partner in our students' education. You can help by talking with your student about following this expectation and by not calling/texting your students during class time unless there is an emergency which requires you to connect with your student. In addition, you are always welcome to call the school if you need to get a hold of your student. We appreciate your partnership as we work to use every minute of class to focus on learning.

RHS IB families of CO 2024!
Paper IB Diplomas and Certificates for CO 2024 seniors have arrived from Cardiff, Wales today. Mr. Collie is at RHS on Tuesdays and Thursdays and former students or family members can come to the main office with ID on those days to collect them. We recognize that many students are out of town at college now, so we are happy to hand them out throughout the school year!
If you would like to pick up your student's diploma/certificate on another day, please contact Mr. Collie in advance and I can have it ready for you to pick up at the front desk, again with ID.
If your student is interested in meeting with Mr. Collie (IB Diploma) or Mr. Bento (IB Career), they can make an appointment to meet with them to learn about both programs. Please reach out if you have any questions. Please visit https://rentonhs.rentonschools.us/programs/ib for more information.
