The first half of the school year is coming to a close! We are so grateful to the LISD students, staff and community who've made this semester another great one. In this newsletter you'll find stories about how our students have been learning, connecting with one another, and giving back in these last few months. This time of year is full of festivities, celebrations and events, so be sure to check your child's campus calendar as well as the Marcus High School calendar for things happening in your area. We hope you all have a magical holiday break!

M9 Receives LEF Grant

Marcus 9 received one of eight campus grants awarded by LEF this fall. The eight grants totaled $36,560! Congratulations to M9 and thank you to the donors who make these grants possible. SEE MORE PHOTOS

Lamar Participates in TECC-E Media Day

Thank you to the Audio/Video Production students at TECC-E for hosting a Media Day! At the event, Lamar students got a taste of the audio/video education available for them at TECC-E.

Veterans Day at Downing

Campuses around the district hosted Veterans Day ceremonies to honor those who have served our country. Downing's annual luncheon gave students the opportunity to share a meal with the veterans in their lives! SEE MORE PHOTOS

Boo Bash at Briarhill

Students and staff gathered together to dress-up, play games and of course..eat plenty of candy! SEE MORE PHOTOS

Magnet Magic at Timber Creek

Mrs. Bauder’s 1st Grade class had fun in science while investigating the strength of magnets. They observed the movement of cars by a magnet. These first graders are STUCK on science! SEE MORE PHOTOS

Prairie Trail Recognized by Flower Mound Chamber

5th grader William Anderson, 5th grade teacher Tiffany Floyd and principal Wendi Vaughn were recognized at the Flower Mound Chamber of Commerce November meeting. We are so proud of these Prairie Trail superstars! SEE MORE PHOTOS

Turkey Trot at McAuliffe

In November, Highlanders participated in the annual McAuliffe Turkey Trot. Great job to all of the students who ran! SEE PHOTOS

Learning is Electric at Highland Village ES

4th graders at Highland Village ES had the chance to explore circuits with a hands-on activity. HVE science teachers used a four corners probe to pre-assess and then students tried to figure out the least amount of wires needed to make the light bulb light. The lesson was electric!

Holiday Around the World at Heritage

Last week Heritage ESD students participated in the annual "Holiday Around the World" event, celebrating cultures from around the globe, sharing information about different countries and enjoying some delicious food and drinks with their families and friends! SEE PHOTOS

Families joined their students for a Thanksgiving feast at Flower Mound Elementary!

Bridlewood Spelling Bee Champs

Congratulations to students Avery (1st place) and Neel (2nd place) for their exceptional performance at the Bridlewood Spelling Bee. We can't wait to see you both in the next round in January!

Recognize SomeONE

The Recognize SomeONE submissions are pouring in, and we're sharing a few for teachers in the Marauder community. As a reminder, you can visit LISD.net/Recognize any time to submit your own encouragement for LISD staff.

  • Elizabeth King, Marcus 9 | "Ms. King has been so positive and encouraging to my daughter. Always available on WebEx to answer questions on homework or before quizzes, helping build her confidence and reminding my daughter how proud of her she is. Thank you Ms. King!"
  • Carren Smrstik, Briarhill Middle School | "Mrs. Smrstik has been my child’s special education teacher for 2 years. She has done such a phenomenal job with my daughter. Not only is she teaching the skills needed in her day to day life, but she has developed such a connection with her that it is bringing education meaningful to her and how she thinks and feels about herself. Mrs. Smrstik has gone above and beyond in helping my daughter make better decisions and connections with her peers. We are blessed to have this teacher in our life."

  • Lisa Bell, Highland Village Elementary School | "I am recognizing Mrs. Lisa Bell. I’m very thankful speech services are available through the school system for children who need it, and she did an excellent job evaluating our son recently. She also provided some extra advice and encouragement to my husband and I to help steer him in a positive direction for growth and development. We are grateful for her care and support (and excited about our son’s next steps!) as it truly is a team effort to raise this next generation. Thank you, Lisa!"
