The Dot Project
This Fall, students have been participating in an arts integration project around "The Dot" a book written by Peter Reynolds about creativity and courage. We are so proud of all of their hard work, and hope you'll take a look at our mural, which has been installed in the cafeteria, next time you visit the Cunniff School.
Ms. Elizabeth Blessing, Art (elizabeth.blessing@watertown.k12.ma.us)
Ms. Liz Schorr, Music (elizabeth.schorr@watertown.k12.ma.us)
Ms. Lidia Diieso Galvin, Media (lidia.diiesogalvin@watertown.k12.ma.us)
Srta. Heather Olafsson, Spanish (heather.olafsson@watertown.k12.ma.us)
Srta. Juliana Carvajal Castrillon (juliana.carvajalcastrillon@watertown.k12.ma.us)
In Art
Ms. Blessing helped students from Kindergarten to Fifth Grade select one color for their monochromatic dot. Students then designed, drew, and colored their dots in order to contribute and help create our “Make Your Mark” mural!
Students also read "The Dot" with Ms. Blessing, check out the video of Peter H. Reynolds reading the story!
In Music
Ms. Schorr taught students to sing the dot song, click the button below to find your classroom teacher and listen to your class recording. You can also sing and move along with the composer of the dot song, Emily Arrow!
Students in 4th grade reviewed the names of colors in Spanish, connected them to the rhythms we are working on in class, and composed a rap.
Use the slides below to create your own colores rap!
In Media
Ms. Diieso introduced 4th and 5th grade students to Chrome Music Lab. In this digital music environment each student created a beat to accompany the melody of the dot song. They downloaded their original music as a .wav audio file and uploaded that file to Google Classroom. Additionally, each student in 5th grade generated a QR Code to their audio file. Click your teacher's name to hear your students composition, and to create your own Chrome Music Lab song at home!
In Spanish
Srta. Olafsson and Srta. Carvajal read "El Punto," with students, which is the translated version of The Dot, and some students helped create a read-aloud of the book in Spanish which you can access on our mural wall. Students also reviewed their colors in Spanish, and created recordings which you can also find on the mural wall.
