January Update 2025
Happy New Year
As we start the second half of the school year, I encourage you to take time to celebrate the accomplishments of your child during the first semester and to help them set academic and personal goals as we begin the second semester.
For those students who have not yet taken advantage of the opportunities Garfield has to offer, there is still time to do so. If students need to improve academically, our teachers are here to help. Students are always encouraged to ask questions during class, come in after school for help, and make learning a top priority. Garfield teachers are more than happy to support any student who is struggling.
In addition, students can attend Homework Club after school from 3-4 pm any day throughout the week. This support is open to all students as needed.
There is also still time to join clubs and activities. Getting involved helps students build connections, develop skills, and create memories that last a lifetime. Being an active learner and a part of the Garfield community makes the middle school years more enjoyable and helps prepare students for the rigor of high school.
Let’s work together to make this second semester a time of growth and success for all students.
Thank you for your ongoing partnership and support.
April Patton
Principal

Attendance Matters!
School Tardies
We greatly value your partnership in ensuring students arrive at school on time each day. Consistent punctuality supports academic success and fosters responsible habits.
To help students start their day smoothly:
- School doors open at 7:45 AM.
- The first bell rings at 8:05 AM, signaling students to proceed to their lockers.
- Classes begin promptly at 8:15 AM.
Students who arrive to class after 8:15 AM will be marked tardy to school.
The office maintains a record of tardies, and progressive consequences are in place to address repeated late arrivals. After the 4th tardy per quarter, students will be subject to school consequences.
We understand that occasional delays may happen, and we encourage open communication. If you have questions or need assistance, please don’t hesitate to contact the school office directly.
Thank you for your continued support in prioritizing attendance and helping your student succeed.
2nd Quarter Report Cards
As a reminder, student reports will not be printed and mailed home. You can access report cards on Infinite Campus by logging in and navigating to “Documents” on the left side, then selecting “Secondary Report Card.” If you can not login to Infinite Campus, please email ichelp@lakewoodcityschools.org.
Report Cards will be available to view starting January 16th.
PTSA Update
Hello Garfield Families and Happy New Year!
The Garfield PTSA is ready to kick off this year with a bang! We have a lot going on and WE NEED YOU!
Every year, the PTSA provides a variety of services and activities for your child and the teachers & staff at our school. We are in great need of increased participation from our parents so that we can continue to do what we’ve been doing over the years. If you’ve made a resolution to get more involved, HERE IS YOUR CHANCE!
We have several ways for you to get involved. Take a look at the following opportunities and sign up today!
Dine to Donate at Immigrant Son Brewery
- Our next Dine to Donate is Wednesday, January 15 at Immigrant Son Brewery (18120 Sloane Ave)
- 10% of ALL sales will be donated to Garfield Middle School PTSA – we really rely on these Dine to Donate fundraisers to support many of the programs, we love supporting local businesses (Immigrant Son is owned by a 1990 LHS Grad), and the food is delicious! It’s a WIN-WIN-WIN situation! If you haven’t been there yet, check it out on Wednesday, January 15th before the PTSA meeting, or grab some carry out after!
- Dine-In and Carry-Out orders qualify! Make sure to mention Garfield Middle School!
- If you haven’t been before, here are my suggestions:
- Brussel Sprouts
- Langos (Hungarian fried bread) – seriously THE BEST
- Smash Burger with zucchini fritters
- Chicken Paprikas
Washington DC Pasta Night Fundraiser – Dessert Donations
- The Pasta Night Fundraiser is Thursday, January 16th at 5:30 and the PTSA is looking for donations of desserts to go with the dinner.
- Here is the SignUp Genius https://www.signupgenius.com/go/8050A4EA5AB2AA4F49-54326487-pasta
- If you’d prefer to donate cash to the cause, click here https://garfield.givebacks.com/store/items/1150332
- We are looking for
- Cookies
- Brownies
- Pies
- Cakes
- Anything else you can think of!
- If you’re planning to come to the PTSA meeting on Wednesday, January 15, please bring your donation. If you cannot attend the meeting, please make sure your donation is dropped off to the school by the 15th so all items can be collected that evening and delivered to the event on the 16th.
- We will create trays of desserts so there is no need to pre-package items.
Teacher Supply Wish List
- To give the teachers a fresh start to the new year, we asked each of them for a “Wish List” of supplies they need for their classrooms. More than 60% of teachers said they need pencils! We have created a Wish List and would love to be able to provide each teacher with one or more items from their Wish List.
- Check out the SignUp Genius https://www.signupgenius.com/go/8050A4EA5AB2AA4F49-54327151-teacher
