Updates & Reminders

SOL testing continues this week. Please refer to the testing schedule and tips below.
THIS Friday 5/17: Retirement celebration for Mr. James Hopkins and Mrs. Sandy Wilcox! Join us at the BES gym from 4-6 for music, refreshments, entertainment, food trucks, and more. If you are attending, please fill out the Google Form here.

Save the date for the evening of Friday, May 31st (the day of Field Day!!!) for an outdoor movie event at school sponsored by the Byrd Parent Group! More information to come!

SOL Testing Schedule + Tips

Reminders/Tips:

Testing can be a stressful time for our students and staff. Check out the posters below with some test-taking skills and coping strategies to help your student succeed!
Please ensure your student arrives at school on time. Testing starts around 8:30 each day and we want to ensure your student has plenty of time to complete the test.
Any students who arrive after the start of their scheduled test will have to make-up their test on another day.
Students cannot be picked up early from a testing session once it has begun. If a student is picked up early, their test will be turned in as is and their score will reflect.

GCPS STEM Camp

Join us for an exciting adventure at the GCPS STEM Camp from June 17th, 18th, 20th, and 21st at GMS! This camp is designed for students in Pre-K through 5th grade and is completely free of charge. Enrollment is on a first-come, first-served basis, so sign up early before registration closes on May 31st! Sign up HERE.

The Goochland Middle School Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA) would like to invite rising 6th grade parents to attend an open meeting/dinner/celebration on May 30th at GMS. RSVP here!

Go Nuts For Reading Program

Thank you to everyone who participated in the Go Nuts for Reading program! We will distribute tickets to the Wednesday, May 29th Flying Squirrels game the week of the game. Kids are invited to participate in a parade around the field prior to the start of the game. Families can purchase additional tickets for $10 a ticket through our school fundraiser site: https://fevo.me/bes2024. Last year the game sold out, so get your extra tickets early!

Bulldog Cheerleading Camp

The GHS Cheerleading Program will host our annual Bulldog Cheerleading Camp for students between the ages of 7-14 (Rising 1st through 8th Graders) from June 10th-12th, 8am to 12pm each day! Campers will get to work closely with GHS Cheerleaders and Coaches on skills, team building, crafts, and more! Cost to attend is $40 per participant and covers a t-shirt and camp supplies. Community News

Feed More Food Bus

The Feed More Food Bus will be at the Goochland YMCA once a month on the advertised dates. The Food Bus will provide fruits, vegetables, and other food items for free to children in need.

The bus is only for children ages 6-18.
Children must accompany the parent/adult. Only children are allowed to go onto the bus to shop. Parents/adults will not be allowed on the bus.
The bus does not require any proof of income etc. to shop.

Looking Ahead

May 24th: Student holiday (teacher work day)
May 27th: School closed (Memorial Day)
May 29th: Flying Squirrels Go Nuts for Reading game
May 31st: Field day and Movie Night at School!
June 5th: 5th grade graduation/ early dismissal
June 6th: Talent show/ early dismissal/ last day of school!

Helpful Links & Info

Please notify the office about transportation changes via email at beseagles@glnd.k12.va.us. If you have daily transportation needs, please make sure you provide changes at the beginning of each week for the entire week. Please make sure you have all transportation changes in prior to 1:00 PM, this allows staff time to communicate all necessary changes and avoids confusion when a call is not received. We appreciate your support.

Parents who wish to chaperone a field trip or volunteer regularly in our school must submit to a background check every 2 years using the BIB portal. The process is completely electronic. If you are having problems with the system, contact Demetra Harris at dharris@glnd.k12.va.us.
