College, Career, Military Readiness Week
College, Career, Military Readiness (CCMR) Week is the week of September 9th-13th. The week is designed to highlight post-high school education, whether it is attending a university, trade school, joining the military, or job training. It is all about furthering your education after high school in order to have a successful career. Following are the “theme days” for our week.
Monday, September 9th
“Planning for the Future is My Jam!”
Wear your concert or music themed t-shirt.
Tuesday, September 10th
“College Suits Me to a T!”
Wear your favorite college spirit wear or colors.
Wednesday, September 11th
“Get Comfy with Planning for the Future!”
Wearing comfy clothes (sweats, pjs, slippers, hats, etc.)
Thursday, September 12th
“The Military Holds a World of Possibilities!”
Wear camo or green.
Friday, September 13th
“All Otters are Headed to High School and Beyond!”
Wear Allen spirit wear or colors.
This year, we are offering the Olson Junior Robotics Club for students in grades 1 and 2.
This program will teach basic programming skills using the LEGO WeDo 2.0 robotic kit. All meetings take place on Mondays, 3:15-4:00 PM. We will offer a series of six classes designed to teach basic robotics programming skills. Parents are responsible for transportation home. After completing the registration form, you will be contacted to confirm which session your child is in and to confirm transportation home plans.
Session I- September 23, October 7, 21, 28, November 11, 18 Session II-January 27, February 3, 10, 24, March 3, 10 Session III- March 31, April 7, 14, 21, 28, May 5
We look forward to working with your student as we explore, build, program and problem solve our way into the future of robotics in schools using the Lego WeDo 2.0 building kits and software. There is ONLY space for 20 students in each session of the club.

Robotics Club Open to Grades 3-6: We are excited to offer the Olson Robotics Club, a free program for students in grades 3-6. All meetings take place on Thursdays, 3:15-4:15PM. We will be instructing students using LEGO Spike Prime Robots. Parents are responsible for transportation home. After completing the attached form you will be contacted to confirm which session your child is in and to confirm transportation home plans. Kids who participated in our Robotics Club last year are welcome to come back and grow their skills! We look forward to working with your student as we explore, build, program and problem solve our way into the future of robotics in schools using the newest LEGO robotics kits and software.

Watch D.O.G.S. (Dads Of Great Students) is a program from the National Center for Fathering, whose purpose is to provide positive male role models for students by being present in education. Watch D.O.G.S. are fathers, grandfathers, uncles, and other father-figures who volunteer for at least one day during the school year by being helping in the classroom, lunch, recess, specials, at arrival and dismissal, etc.
Our annual kick-off event is Monday, September 9th from 5:30-6:30 in the Olson cafeteria. Please see the attached flyer for all the necessary information to RSVP for the event. Following the kick-off event, a Skyward email will go out with all the necessary information to sign-up to volunteer for Watch D.O.G.S.
We are so glad that you are ready to eat lunch with your child! Please adhere to the following
protocols for having lunch with your student.
PLEASE:
*Stay on the stage and do not go to your child's cafeteria table. (Your child will meet you in the cafeteria.)
*Eat with your child only (no friends on the stage.)
*If you need to speak to your child's teacher, please contact them outside of their lunch break. (Email is the best way to contact your child's teacher.)
*Do not take pictures of anyone other than your child. This includes background images.
*Do not play with items on the stage.
