Fall Break
We will not have school October 14 - October 25 for fall break.
Have a safe and enjoyable time off!
Principal's Message - October 2024
Avon North Families - I hope the October newsletter finds you well and settling into the school year! It is hard to believe that the first quarter has come to a close as we are starting quarter two today.
You will have an opportunity to see your child’s progress during the 1st quarter on their grade report that will be sent via Parent Square this week. Your child’s teacher, school counselor, and assistant principal are all great resources if you have any questions about AMSN. You should also be able to access their Q2 schedule in Power School.
Your student took Ilearn checkpoint one this month. The Ilearn assessment format is shifting beginning in the 2025-26 school year to three checkpoints throughout the school year with opportunities for second attempts. This year is a pilot year in which many districts are participating. The checkpoints are smaller versions of the spring assessment and designed to help give teachers and students progress data so that we can respond accordingly. Checkpoint two will be coming in early December!
As we approach Fall break, we will have spirit days at AMSN. Please encourage your child to participate in our dress up days next week! More information will be coming via parent square and Schoology about the daily themes next week.
Have a great start to the month and enjoy your Fall Break!

Building Access
In Avon Schools, safety of our students and staff is our highest priority. A building access intercom system was installed at AMSNorth. Visitors will press the doorbell and be asked to identify yourself and provide a reason for your visit. Thank you for your patience in adapting to this updated, more secure system.

Counselor's Corner
Managing your child’s social media use can be daunting. We all know the basics; no social media in the bedroom, make sure privacy settings are on high and no talking to ‘randoms’. The problem is, we don’t know what we don’t know. We have to trust kids to do the right thing. Obviously when a child is ready for that responsibility varies. It’s a good idea to have a discussion with your child about his or her responsibilities when it comes to social media.
A contract is a great way to trigger discussion and establish boundaries. After the discussion, make sure the contract is kept somewhere visible, like on the fridge. Referring back to the contract will remind them of the commitments they made. This contract will allow you to have positive discussions about social media while still making sure you cover all bases.
The thought of paying for college can feel overwhelming. Did you know that eligible students who meet certain requirements can get a two or four-year scholarship that pays up to 100% tuition at eligible Indiana colleges and Universities?
- Students who are at least 13 years old should create a ScholarTrack account, regardless of their 21st Century Scholars enrollment status.
- When the ScholarTrack account is created, students must sign the Scholar Pledge to confirm enrollment in the program. This should be completed by the end of 9th grade.
- Once the Scholar Pledge is signed, Scholars must complete the Scholar Success Program. All students can complete the program regardless of 21st Century Scholars enrollment status.
International Travel Opportunity
Our Spanish teacher, Señora Clark, is offering an international travel experience for Spring Break 2026. Students will have the opportunity to travel to Panama in collaboration with EF Tours. This is a student-focused educational tour, with an emphasis on learning about the country, its history, culture, biodiversity, and language. Students will be accompanied by veteran teachers who have a passion for Spanish, Science, and Social Studies. Educational travel will help your child gain a more global perspective, shape their independence, and broaden their horizons. Highlights of this hands-on learning experience include seeing the modern and colonial areas of Panama City, visiting the Panama Canal, ziplining, jungle hikes, nature talks, surfing, whitewater rafting, and more. This opportunity is open to students in the Class of 2026 to Class of 2030.
Meeting date: Wednesday September 4, 2024, 6:00-7:00 PM in the AMS North Media Center (Door 27)
Please RSVP for the Panama meeting here: https://rsvp.eftours.com/vmrar5g , Questions? Email Señora Clark at sclark@avon-schools.org
*This opportunity is not school sponsored.
Office Procedures
Attendance:
If a student is absent from school, a parent or guardian must call the school at 317-544-5500 by 10:00 am to report the absence or send an email to MNattendance@avon-schools.org
Early Dismissal:
When students have to leave school early for special appointments, a note from a parent or guardian must be brought from home to secure an “Early Dismissal” slip from the office. The note must be brought to the front office before school starts.
Tardy to School:
If a student arrives after 9:20 am, he/she must sign in at the office before going to class. If a student reaches 5 tardy slips to school, he/she will receive an after school detention for each tardy after the fifth one (per semester).
AM/PM Car Rider Procedures:
Cars must merge into one lane before reaching Door 1. In the morning, students are not to leave the cars before 9:00! The doors are not unlocked until 9:10 am.
In the afternoon, students wait for their cars as they stand along the car-loading section of the sidewalk. Drivers are to pull their cars along the sidewalk ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE YELLOW SIGN THAT READS: STUDENT DROPOFF.
Homework Request:
Parents and students may obtain homework assignments through Schoology and monitor grades through Power Parent.
Lunch:
Please note that we do not accept food for students delivered from restaurants or outside delivery services.
Student Pick-up from Extra-Curricular Activities:
Any student who is picked up on the north side will need to be picked up in the football parking lot. The students may be athletes or ones involved in extra-curricular clubs/activities. We will block the north drive coming off of Dan Jones Road from the Northwest corner all the way to the tennis courts. We will also block the entrance/exit into the football parking lot from this street. If you enter off of Dan Jones Road, please know that you will need to proceed all the way around the building using the front drive to get to the football parking lot. The best way to enter is off of 10th street.
We are asking for all parents to wait for their children in the football parking lot spaces for safety concerns. Due to the number of athletes and students involved in other extra-curricular events walking to and from the building, it is important that we keep curbs clear of cars. This allows for drivers to see children better. This also allows for our student athletes to see traffic. All of our students’ safety is of utmost concern, so we are asking for your help in making our campus as safe as possible. Thank you from the entire Avon North Administrative staff.
