KHS Faculty and Staff Bearkat Brief
September 2 - September 6
1.11 10/28-11/1
Klein High Faculty and Staff,
What a fantastic week we had celebrating all things Homecoming! For me, one highlight was seeing all of our Bearkats in one place for the pep rally. With everyone's support and commitment to success, everything ran smoothly and all had a great time. Special thanks to Mr. Davis, Ms. Franco, Ms. Vela, Ms. Dabrowski, Ms. Branham, Mr. Fehl and all of their assistants who poured endless hours into making sure everything was perfect for the students. Thank you to our athletic department for that Klein High HOCO victory! Finally, shout-out to all who helped with the jamboree AND to our faculty and staff who participated in the Bearkadette dance!
As we creep into November, we will continue to stay focused on achieving growth for every student. PLCs will center specifically on two questions: 1. What do we do with those who got it? 2. What do we do with those who did not get it? The goal is to personalize the instruction to address both of these concerns. Please be thinking about how to address these concerns and be ready to share with your team.
Looking forward to another great week! Happy Halloween!

Positive Referrals
You can now submit positive behavior referrals for students who you see personifying our core values. The student, their parents, and their AP will be alerted when they receive a "High Five." We will share with them what you wrote so that we can keep encouraging our Bearkats to do the right thing and grow as young adults. Here is the LINK FOR THE FORM. It is also linked in the Bearkat Dash.

Grade Entry Deadline PR3
Grades for PR3 are due on Monday, November 11th at 8:00 am. Every student in your gradebook will need at least one grade for the first progress report of the quarter. Q2 is a bit shorter than some other quarters due to semester finals, so please keep this in mind as we move through grade entry deadlines. HERE is the 2024-2025 Grade Entry document for your reference. If you have any questions, please contact your administrator.
QSE 2 GRADEBOOK UPDATES
The following courses will not have a Fall Final Exam, but will administer the QSE2 instead.
If you are administering a QSE2 instead of a Fall Final Exam, your gradebook should not have an SE1 column. If you are not one of the courses listed above, your gradebook should have an SE1 column. However, if you notice that there is a discrepancy with your gradebook involving the SE1 column, please complete this FORM.
ARDS
As we approach ARD season, please remember that ARD participation is mandatory as it is required by law. Reminders:
- Accept all ARD outlook invites sent.
- Let ARD Managers know if you are unable to attend.
- Complete all teacher feedback forms by the deadline.
Thank you for your commitment to these tasks around ARD meetings. These meetings are important to families and important for the success of our students.
2024-2025 PEIMS Fall Snapshot Day
The 2024-2025 PEIMS Fall Snapshot date was Friday, October 25th. The District reported to TEA on all students served and all staff employed on that snapshot date. This means that the students that were enrolled on our campus on that day are the students that will be tied to our accountability. So, as we are planning high quality instruction for all of our students and digging into data please be intentional in focusing on the students that are directly connected to our campus accountability. If you have any further questions please reach out to AJ Hatcher.
PLC HOT TOPICS
The PLC Agenda Items below are to be copied onto your PLC team's agenda each week.
PLC Agenda Items
- QSE Data Digs - review your teams Smart Goals, the students we targeted per our Smart Goals, how did they do and what steps do we need to take next to reach our target.
- Backwards planning for the upcoming CCA and QSE2
- Looking at the QSE2 blueprint to ensure that those skill are a part of our lesson plans
- Bianca Ortega will be attending PLCs to assist in identifying EB students and their levels.
- Specific strategies for EB and students served through Special Education - EB students on your rosters should be identified and teachers should know their levels.
- Check Sped and 504 Testing Accommodations Eduphoria for each student - please reach out to your specialist for assistance.
- Discourse embedded in lessons everyday and included in Lesson Plans: district priority to include Think-Pair-Write-Share in your lesson once a week. Discourse Strategies
- Writing included in lessons and in all content areas
- Data Talks - where are we and what are the next steps?
- Include lesson plans for InKlein Stations (Thursdays) and Lesson Review/Extensions (Wednesdays)
- Every PLC should be focused around the 4 PLC questions:
- What do we want the students to know and be able to do?
- How will we know if they learned it?
- How will we respond when some students do not learn it?
- How will we extend the learning for students who are already proficient?
MOVIE REQUESTS
EF Local Media Request- As we roll into the school year, we know many of you may use videos to supplement your instruction. Just a reminder that media including films, videos, or documentaries must be selected to enhance the learning experience for students and be aligned to the TEKS and the Klein ISD curriculum. Media must be previewed by the teacher. After review, the teacher will submit a written request with evidence of curricular and TEKS alignment to the campus principal or administrative designee for approval prior to instruction. Media must be approved in advance of instructional use by the school principal or their administrative designee.
Approved ratings for High School G, PG, PG-13, TV 14
Please complete this process at least two weeks prior to showing the film/video/documentary. It is imperative that teachers preview the film/video requested in its ENTIRETY PRIOR to showing it to the class. KHS Media Request Form
Cell Phones and Personal Electronic Devices in the Classroom
In an effort to maintain a focused instructional environment, students must keep their cell phones and personal electronic devices out of sight during class time in ALL CLASSES. Teachers should remind students of this expectation at the beginning of each lesson and enforce the Klein High cell phone policy thereafter (Slides 12-14). To ensure consistency across our campus and compliance with the KISD Student Code of Conduct, please actively monitor students in the classroom and hold them accountable to the established expectation.
As the admin team is regularly in and out of classrooms throughout the day, we will be looking to see that the expectation is consistently being upheld across campus in ALL CLASSES.

PSAT/SAT Information for Staff
The PSAT will be administered to all 10th and 11th graders at Klein High on Tuesday, October 29. 9th graders will take the PSAT if they "opted in" by the deadline. Seniors will have late arrival at 8:30 am, and they will participate in the Senior Expo. This is an awesome opportunity to hear from guest speakers about college and career opportunities after high school.
9th, 10th & 11th Grade TESTERS: Students must be in their assigned testing rooms by 7:15 AM. The PSAT is a timed test, and so there is no late arrival on testing day. Students can find their testing room assignments in Schoology.
9th Grade NON-TESTERS: Students must be in their assigned study hall rooms by 7:15 AM. Students can find their study hall room assignments in Schoology.
