Weekly Update
ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT - Week of April 21, 2024
HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETICS
BOYS TENNIS
CAL Shutouts: 1. Alan made his debut this year and played hard. Really made his opponent work. He was a dynamo on the court. 2. Zack also made his first appearance as a singles player this year. Zack is a consistent player who shows great sportsmanship on the court at all times. 3. The big shutout goes to Jaden and Michael who won in round 1 against Cedar Creek, then lost in round 2 against Mainland. This pair are true warriors. They fought hard and should be proud of themselves. Keep fighting warriors!
GOLF
The Eagles spent the week soaring into the top 8 of SJ Group IV, putting themselves into position to qualify for the sectional tournament. With three matches taking place at their home of McCullough's Emerald Golf Links, it comes as no surprise that our birds were strong in protecting their nest.
Tuesday saw them post their 2nd best round of the year (167), with junior Chase Adomaitis (39) leading the way. Seniors Ryan Griffin (41), Johnny Neveling (43) and Carson Bellak (44) rounded out the scoring.
On Wednesday, the Eagles did one better (166), seeing them move above the cut line for the first time all season. Captain Johnny Neveling (39) needed a birdie on the last hole to match cards with his playing partner Chase Adomaitis (39), while seniors Carson Bellak (44) and Andrew Lisa (44) matched cards as well to round out the scoring.
Wednesday also saw our Lady Eagles fly south to Shore Gate Golf Club in round 4 of the CAL girls' golf events. Sophomore Julie Duggan (42) finished 1st out of 30 girls by three shots. Her teammates junior Olivia Nehmad and freshman Camille More also posted top 10s.
On Thursday, the Eagles continued their climb up the leaderboard of SJ Group IV, posting another great round (171) while also celebrating senior day. Chase Adomaitis (37) led the way with Johnny Neveling (43), Julie Duggan (44) and Ryan Griffin (47) rounding out the scoring.
With the cut-off date for sectionals next Wednesday and the prestigious Carl Arena tournament next Thursday, the birds will look to continue to soar to the top!
