The Scoop!
Cedar Hills Elementary - September 20, 2024

May 9, 2025 - Principal's Note
This week was a very active week for many connected to CHE! Throughout the week, we had choir performances at CHE and PRMS, our first Bike or Roll to school day, classroom teachers started evaluating end of the year data, our amazing PTO celebrated ALL staff for Teacher Appreciation Week, and we topped it all off with Field Day that included a magician. It was a very active week in all ways! We couldn't make these kinds of things happen without the support of an outstanding staff, supportive PTO, and an awesome community! Thank you to all that touch CHE every day!! ❤️
A HUGE thank you to those that helped with Field Day and Teacher Appreciation Week -- both were above and beyond. I'd venture to say they were the best in the four years that I've been a part of Cedar Hills!
As a reminder for our car line, please do not enter CHE's space to pick up for the car line until 3:15 or after. We've had a lot of confusion and safety concerns with PRMS and their dismissal in the last week or so due to our community coming in too early.
Have a great weekend and happy Mother's Day to all of those connected to CHE!

Field Day - FUN!! 🎉

The Overland Park Police Department would like to share an important message to the residents in Overland Park. As the weather warms up, ensuring everyone understands the rules around motorized vehicles helps keep streets and neighborhoods safe for pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers alike.

Electric motorcycles and Dirt bikes (50cc engines or higher) are generally legal in Overland Park, Kansas, but they must adhere to state and local traffic laws. They require a valid motorcycle license, registration, and insurance, and cannot be operated on city trails or in areas where motorized vehicles are prohibited.
In Kansas, you can obtain a Class M motorcycle license or endorsement as early as 16 years of age, if you've completed a motorcycle safety course. If you haven't completed such a course, you must be at least 18 years old.

Front Walker Adjustment - Reminder
Last week, our Front Walker families received the email below. This will go into effect on Monday. We will have administrators, law enforcement, and other support staff out in the area to ensure the safety of this area.
Email:
We wanted to reach out to get your help addressing a safety concern that has grown to a point of impacting others and putting students and adults in unsafe situations. During the last four years at Cedar Hills, picking up students with cars that are leaving CHE as front walkers from parking in the PRMS or CHE parking lot has not been part of our protocol or practice. But there has been a small group that has done this each year. Over the years, this practice has grown and grown. It’s become a large concern for staff, OPPD, and other families as we have students walking through traffic, adults double parking, and has created some very large safety concerns for all.
Unfortunately, we’ve hit a point where we will have to ask that you not drive and park at PRMS or CHE to pick up your student if they are a front walker any longer.
If students are front walkers, they should be walking home or meeting an adult that has walked up to school to meet them and ensure they are getting home safe. We will have staff in the area helping remind adults of this over the next few weeks.
If you still want to pick up your student with a car, you are more than welcome to update their status in PickUp Patrol to a car rider and join the car line.
I realize that this will not be a welcomed change and it will frustrate most that have used this practice, but the reality of the safety concern is very real. We’ve observed students almost being hit by cars, venturing into traffic on their own, being left without an adult for 15-45 minutes, and various other situations that put our students’ wellbeing or the safety of others in the community in jeopardy. We need to make this adjustment for the safety of all.
We appreciate your support in making sure our entire community is as safe as can be.

Civility For All - Students, Staff, and Community
We are thankful for the ongoing partnership and support we experience in our school community. Working together we ensure the best possible student experience allowing them to realize personal success. There are times, however, when issues arise which require our continued collaboration to resolve. Families may utilize the matrix linked on the district website to best address questions and concerns that may arise throughout the course of a school year. Finally, all staff and visitors should conduct their business free from intimidation, harassment, or bullying. The district’s Board of Education states expectations regarding civility within Policy 6341. Again, thank you for your partnership in helping to maintain a safe school community environment for all.
