APS Green Gloves
Custodial and Maintenance Newsletter
Welcome!
The Maintenance and Operation Department's vision is "to provide safe, well-maintained, and comfortable facilities, that complement and promote our dynamic learning environments." We know our custodians are the "eyes and ears" of our building operations and through preventative maintenance help to identify problems early on to save money and resources.
New for the 2017-2018 school year is the "APS Green Gloves Program," specifically designed to engage custodians in their work to promote green practices in their buildings.
From energy efficiency plans to waste service programs, our custodians will lead the charge to make our district more sustainability-driven and environmentally responsible, all the while providing comfortable facilities for our students and staff.
October is Energy Action Month!
Using energy wisely makes sense - both for the environment and from a cost savings standpoint.
Here are some great resources to include best practices for energy conservation at your school:
- Turn off lights when not in use
- Create a plan to clean each room in your building on one cycle, instead of visiting rooms on multiple occasions. Save time, save energy!
- Put in a work order to your site electrician for areas in your school that could replace switches with occupancy sensors (bathrooms and closets)
- Create a Friday Reminder 1 hour before the school is dismissed for teachers and staff to turn off lights, shutdown computers, and unplug personal appliances to jump start savings over the weekend
- With the help and expertise of our district's electricians, replace old fixtures and CFLs with more efficient LED light bulbs by identifying these opportunities in a Work Order.

Too many lights are on and not enough people are present!
When not in use, turn off the juice!
I pledge to...
Wasted energy is nothing to "snicker" about.
