Secaucus High School
Update
Dear SHS Community,
The school year is off to an exciting start with our annual Senior Breakfast and Fall Pep Rally. We wish all students participating in our athletic program a successful and healthy season. We remind all spectators that our athletic program is in alignment with the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association (NJSIAA) values of sportsmanship, respect, and fair play in all aspects of competition, and we kindly ask that spectators adhere to the following guidelines while supporting our student-athletes:
Respect for Players: Please remember that the players on both teams are students first and athletes second. Encourage and support them in their efforts, regardless of the outcome of the game. Avoid making negative comments or gestures towards players, including those on the opposing team.
Respect for Coaches: Our coaches dedicate a significant amount of time and effort to help our student-athletes develop their skills and achieve success. Please show them respect by refraining from questioning their decisions or criticizing their coaching strategies during games. Trust in their expertise and leadership.
Respect for Officials: Umpires and referees play a crucial role in ensuring fair play and enforcing the rules of the game. While it's natural to feel passionate about the game, it's important to remember that officials are human and may occasionally make mistakes. Treat them with courtesy and refrain from engaging in confrontational behavior or verbal abuse.
Positive Support: Cheer for our team and applaud good plays, regardless of which side they come from. Avoid engaging in taunting, heckling, or any behavior that may be perceived as unsportsmanlike towards our own team, the opposing team or supporters.
Role Modeling: Remember that you are setting an example for our student-athletes and younger spectators. Your behavior reflects not only on yourself but also on our school community as a whole. By demonstrating sportsmanship and respect, you contribute to creating a positive and inclusive environment for everyone.
