RILINK Newsletter
October 2024
RILINK staff members are here to help school librarians. If you want to update your Destiny Discover site, work on your LibGuide, or have other questions, please reach out to us. The best way to get a quick response is to submit a Request for Help.
Welcome Lisa
We are excited to welcome Lisa Lehmuller as our new Member Services Librarian. Lisa has worked in libraries for over twenty-five years, most recently at Paul Cuffee School in Providence. Having been a librarian in a RILINK school, she has likely had all the same problems you do, and is happy to support you.
RILINK Directory - Please Check Your Listing
To keep our directory up to date, we need your input! Take a moment to check the RILINK Directory to ensure that your site/district's information is correct. Names, contact information, and hours should all be accurate. If you see a change that we need to make, please complete the Directory Update Form to let us know!
Setting up a Substitute Librarian Access Level
Have you ever wondered about setting up a substitute account for when you are out of the building? Here's a short screencast of how to add an access level for substitute teachers. If you already have specific substitute teachers assigned to your building who have patron accounts, just change their access level to substitute and they will be able to check out books for you. If you don't, you'll need to create an account for them.
Shout Out to North Kingstown's 2024 Teacher of the Year, Hannah Hoy
The North Kingstown teacher of the year was announced a few weeks ago. Congratulations go out to Hannah Hoy, library media specialist at Stony Lane Elementary School.
RISOCKS
Elementary librarians, have you noticed the new carousel in Sora labeled Animals & Nature? Take a look - there are over 150 unlimited, simultaneous use ebooks for students in grades K-4. Have your students and teachers check it out. It is a great way to teach all those text features that are found in nonfiction! These ebooks can also be used in a substitute lesson plan.
Renee Lienhard, our Overdrive account manager sent out a quick survey for librarians at the beginning of September. Please take a few minutes to complete the quick Sora survey for Librarians if you haven't done so yet. The folks at Overdrive contain a wealth of knowledge and are here to help us in whatever ways they can.
EBEC Giveaway
As you know, the East Bay Educational Collaborative is closing, and the offices and classrooms in Warren are being emptied. Bookcases that were used in the building are available for free to libraries. If you are interested, your district will need to arrange pick-up. Contact Donna Ottaviano for more information.
2025 LORI Certification Closed
The FY2025 LORI Resource Sharing Certification closed Monday, September 30, 2024 for school libraries. Thank you to all of the school libraries that completed the process! Members who certify are eligible to participate in statewide delivery and other resource sharing activities such as FirstSearch and the ILL Clearinghouse.
LORI certified RILINK libraries that also participate in CDL (Cross District Loan) will be receiving an updated information packet next week.
Contact Lori DeCesare, Resource Sharing Coordinator at OLIS or Karen Shore at RILINK with questions.
