Weekly Wrap-Up #29 3/29/24
Wrapping up This Week + News for the Weeks to Come
Thoughts from Your Principal, Kathy Sather
Welcome back! Happy Easter, Happy Passover or blessed Ramadan to all those who celebrate. To everyone, happy spring!
Yesterday at our Friday Wrap Up we celebrated Sports Day AND had our Raffle drawing. As we always do, we honored our Super Readers, celebrated our school-wde reading and Class Growlers. We're still watching for the first class to get to 100 Growlers! It's getting close:). Remember, whether your child reads with you or on his/her own, it is truly the magical secret to continued growth. Thank you for making this valued in your homes and lives.
After Spring Break, the school year seems to move at double time through the end of the year. This is a great time for me to remember to say THANK YOU for the many ways you partner with us to make school a rich learning environment for your child(ren) and others in our school community. Thank you!! Every time people ask me about how Garfield is for me, I always lead with I love the staff, our students, and the families are amazing. Always feel free to reach out on dojo, phone (970-613-6000), or via email (kathy.sather@tsd.org) to share ideas or ask questions.
Our final Partners in Education (PIE) meeting of the year is coming up on Monday, April 8th from 4:30-5:00. This group was formerly known as SAC and its function is to create a venue for families and staff to collaborate and plan together to continuously improve our school. If you'd like to join us in person, we'll be in the library. However, if there is interest in a virtual option, please let me know and I'll create a link to let you be a voice in the discussion about staffing and school budgets for next year.
Please support our district in its decision making process by going to this link or use the QR code attached to give some community feedback. This survey is for a possible 2024 bond initiative. To ensure that our school community's voice is heard, please give feedback. The survey should only take about 12 minutes and answers will remain anonymous and confidential. Please contact info@tsd.org if you have any questions about the survey. In advance, thank you for honestly sharing your thinking.
As I finish my thoughts for this week, I am feeling very grateful and blessed by the people in this community. Wishing you a wonderful weekend!
City News to be Aware of: Construction in our school area beginning April 1st
The City’s Stormwater Engineering division, in partnership with Connell Resources, will resume construction on the Garfield-Harrison project in April, weather permitting. Phase 2c is expected to be completed in Fall 2024. Phase 2c will begin along Sheridan Avenue north of 4th Street. The project will entail:
• Street milling on March 25. Street milling is a process used in road construction and
maintenance to remove the top layer of an existing pavement surface.
• A large diameter storm sewer pipe will be installed up to 5th Street and then east to
Roosevelt Avenue, requiring excavation that will require a full road closure. Adding a
waterline on 5th Street between Franklin and Roosevelt Avenues.
Traffic Impacts
Through traffic on Sheridan Avenue and 5th Street will be closed from April 1 until the end of
summer 2024. During construction, local access will always be maintained. Residents will
experience heavy construction noise and disruptions near their homes for approximately two
months. Typical working hours will be Monday through Friday from approximately 7 a.m. to 5
p.m. Night and weekend work will be occasional and announced in advance.
