Our teachers had so much fun in our inflatable race to kick off our run!
Happy October! As the leaves begin to change and we embrace the beauty of fall, I want to take a moment to reflect on the wonderful start we've had to the school year. Our students have settled in beautifully, and it’s heartwarming to see their enthusiasm for learning. We look forward to meeting with you during our upcoming conferences after fall break. This is a great opportunity to discuss your child’s progress and collaborate on their learning journey. Please sign up for a time that works for you. We will send this out next week.
Reminders:
- Please ensure your child comes to school with appropriate clothing for the changing weather.
- As we approach Halloween, please remember that costumes are not allowed during the school day, but we can't wait to see everyone at our annual Trunk or Treat on October 25.
- Please ensure your child is on time every day. We believe that attendance matters and so does every single minute your children are with us. If your child is out for more than 10 days you will be receiving a letter from CCSD.
Thank you for your continued support and partnership in your child's education. Together, we can make this year a memorable and successful one!
Best,
Ashley Gray-Principal

Time to NOMINATE our ALL STARS!
Do you work with someone who is an All Star? Someone who is always willing to go above-and-beyond or has done an exemplary job on a project? Then nominate them for a Cherry Creek Schools All Star Award!
The All Star Award was created to recognize classified and professional technical employees (para's, TA's, clinic and office staff) who are positive representatives of their employee groups and contribute to the success of the Cherry Creek School District. Winners will be selected from the pool of nominees by the district’s Employee Recognition Committee based on information provided on the nomination form. Please tell a compelling story about why the person you are nominating should be honored as an All Star!

Student Council Report:
Hello Fox Hollow families and students. We are student council members and this month we are putting together fox tales. We are excited to share with you what has been going on at school. In 4th grade we are dissecting a sheep’s eye. There are a lot of thoughts about this project. But overall most students are excited to explore a sheep’s eyeball. Maybe they will find some cool sights there! In 5th grade there is an opportunity for students to go to a camp that you may or may not have heard about from your children. It is called HighTrails (outdoor Ed). There are many emotions going on, some a little scared to leave home for a couple of nights but many are enthusiastic about it. We hope you have a wonderful fall break. We will see you on October 21, 2024!

It is hard to believe we have already been in school for over a month! As all the grade levels have worked through spatial awareness, body awareness, teamwork, and sportsmanship, we were all ready for our first sport – Volleyball! 1st – 5th Grade Students learned basic volleyball fundamentals and even got practice with the volleyball net up! Our next rotation will have us Hands Free as we work on soccer skills!
Kindergarten students are continuing to work on spatial and body awareness while also working on throwing and catching skills. I was told that one of the games that we were doing was similar to “Keepy Uppy” from Bluey! I went home feeling very hip and current with what is cool today! 😊
We will be moving on to a variety of games, be sure to ask your kindergartner what they played!
Just a friendly reminder that we will have Field Day in May. Mark your calendars for Friday, May 9, 20205! This fun-filled day is a student favorite and we LOVE to have lots of parent volunteers for it! There will be more information about this in 2025!
Thank you!

Hello and welcome from the Music classroom! I have loved being a new part of this wonderful community and getting to know your students in the classroom! This month I want to give you a taste of what music class looks like each day.
We start every class with a short get-to-know-you question to build connections and practice our music rules. After that we introduce or review our learning targets, discussing important vocabulary words or concepts. After that we spend the vast majority of our time practicing music skills and concepts through games, dancing, songs, and many other modes of exploration. We wrap up class with recognitions of students who have contributed to the music class culture goals of Growth and Respect.
During our current rotation, 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades are practicing their music reading skills as well as their coordination through folk dancing. 2nd grade is also working on coordination in addition to rhythm writing and reading. 1st Grade is practicing rhythms, careful listening, and expressive music elements like fast/slow. Kinder is continuing to work on using their singing voices as well as moving their bodies like the music sounds.
I am still accepting students for choir club! Please email me at tjones12@cherrycreekschools.org if you’d like to join. We have plenty of time before any performances.
Please feel free to email me with questions or just to share stories about how your student remembers music class!

This round in STEM, 5th grade students will be creating roller coasters. Then they will use these creations to write a persuasive paragraph convincing their classmates why their roller coaster is the best. 4th grade students are creating playgrounds. Their structures must be to scale with a lego mini figure, must include structures that move, and must include a natural element. Finally, 2nd grade students are developing coding skills using Ozobots.
*****Robotics Club: Fourth and Fifth grade families look for information to come home the week of October 7th. A sign up will be made available. Twenty students will be chosen at random. Sessions will be on Thursdays beginning November 7th. The cost is $25 per student.

Health and Wellness Reminders from CCSD Health Services
More information can be found at The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE)
How Sick is Too Sick? / (¿Qué tan enfermo es demasiado enfermo?)
The best way to remain healthy and prevent illness from spreading is through good handwashing habits (washing hands for 20 seconds with soap and warm water after using the bathroom, blowing nose, sneezing/coughing, and before/after eating), getting vaccinated for preventable diseases, and staying home when sick!
Stay home when sick!
· If your student is not feeling well enough to take part in their usual activities, due to illness symptoms, they should stay home.
· If your student needs to be picked up from school, have a plan in place to pick them up as soon as possible.
Fever
· Defined as a body temperature over 100.4° F.
· Students may return to school after being 24 hours fever-free without the use of fever-reducing medication such as Tylenol (acetaminophen) or Motrin (ibuprofen).
Vomiting/Diarrhea
· Students may return to school 24 hours after the last episode of vomiting and/or diarrhea unless it is caused by an illness that requires them to stay home longer.
· If your student has a medical condition that causes them to have a baseline of spit-up, reflux, or loose stools regularly, notify your school nurse, so we can best support your student's success.
Cough
· Remind students to cough into their elbow, this helps keep the hands clean from illness and can decrease the spread of illness.
· Keep your student home if the cough is severe or uncontrolled.
· If a cough lasts longer than 2 weeks, we encourage checking in with your healthcare provider.
Lice
· Signs of lice:
o Itching of the scalp, presence of live lice, eggs attached to the hair shaft, and/or small pinpoint scabs at the base of the hairline.
o If live lice are present, students may remain in school until the end of the school day; however, they cannot return until after receiving an approved pediculicide treatment per CDPHE guidelines.
· Reminder: lice is a nuisance and not a public health concern.
o This means it is not a reportable infectious disease, as it does not spread disease.
o It is not due to poor hygiene habits.
o We do not send notification letters home when cases of lice are present.
o We do not perform routine classroom-wide lice checks.
Vaccines
· Many childhood/school-aged illnesses can be prevented by receiving routine vaccines. Talk with your provider or school nurse for more information.
Wishing all students, parents/guardians, and staff a healthy school year!

Parent Information Network presentations Series:
Last week we had our Fall Lockdown drill. All of our classes and students did a fabulous job! Below is a run down of what this drill typically looks like:
•Our CCSD safety and Security team arrives as well as our SRO and sometimes others from the sheriff's office.
•Our Fox Hollow staff pairs with a rep from the safety team and we divide up the campus.
•Admin makes an announcement reminding students we are doing a practice/ drill and to follow their teachers directions.
•We use our Valcom system to announce and begin the drill.
•Teachers use RedBags to report how many (adults and students) are in their room.
•As pairs we go to each room and ensure doors were locked, we enter the classroom and answer questions if need and we make sure all students and teachers are okay.
•Our safety team monitors RedBag check-ins. From there, they can send and receive status updates and is notified if anyone needs assistance.
•Once all spaces are checked, we make an announcement that we have completed our drill. Students resume their day as normal and a text is sent to families communicating the drill has finished.
Each month we practice our evacuation/ fire drill. Our October one is scheduled or next week! For this drill we time us to ensure we can evacuate in enough time to have all accounted for and ready to go if we truly need to leave the campus.
