Dance?
We got a lot of questions about a dance, and yes, we do have one coming up on Friday, October 25th!
More details will follow, but I wanted everyone to know that we will have one.
Fundraiser! Only Two Weeks Left!
Dear LVMS Families,
We are excited to kick off the 2024-2025 school year and can't wait for students to build strong relationships on campus.
I am hoping you might be willing to help us build a vibrant and connected school culture at LVMS. Fundraising is something that helps to fund student activities and give teachers additional resources to support students. Through our partnership with School Funding Group we are simply asking for a minimum $20 dollar donation, and for that donation, you will receive numerous discounts on brand names like Amazon, Home Depot, Nike and Oakley. These discounts can far outweigh the cost of your donation.
The proceeds of this fundraiser will help fund:
- Teacher Training
- Teacher Supplies
- Student Incentives
- Technology for the classroom
- UIL and OAP Supplies
- School Improvement
We appreciate any support you can give and can't wait for this to be the best school year ever!

Strive for 5!
Per Texas State Law, in order to receive credit for a course or grade level, a student must be in attendance 90% of the time. Absences whether excused or unexcused count towards the total.
But even more important than the law is that when your child misses school, they miss the amazing instruction that is happening and there's no way to ever truly make that up. Last year, our students missed a total of 3,320 days of instruction which equals 24,900 hours of awesome teaching that went unexperienced.
We want all of our students to be able to take advantage of as much great teaching as possible, so that's why this year we are encouraging all parents to "Strive for 5!" Strive for 5 or less missed days for your child this school year. Please do not misunderstand- if your child is sick, please, please, please keep them home. However, try to plan vacations around our school holidays so that your child can avoid missing as much instruction as possible.
Many parents don't realize that the vast majority of our funding from the state is directly tied to our daily attendance. Each student that is present each day equates to about $37 in funding. If a student is absent, that amount is lost. $37 may not seem like much, but it adds up quickly! When looking at last year's numbers, LVMS lost $122,840 in funding due to attendance. That funding could allow us to hire more teachers equating to smaller class sizes to benefit our students.
Again, if your child is sick, please keep them home. The last thing we want is for your child to be miserable here at school and to possibly cause another child to be sick. What we are trying to limit is avoidable absences.
Attendance Reminders
- The tardy bell rings at 8:40. Instruction begins immediately at this time.
- Official attendance is taken each day at 9:45. If your child is not physically present at that time, they are counted absent.
- All attendance notes should be given to your child's teacher or emailed to Terri Harkins at tharkins@lagovistaisd.net. Notes should be returned within 3 school days of the absence or appointment.
- Typically, the later in the school day you can schedule needed appointments, the better. You definitely want to avoid the 9:45 time frame if possible.

Cross Country Season Takes Off!
We are so proud of the hard work and effort these athletes put into everything they do! They push each other in their training and races. We love the way they cheer for each other and support one another. Although the girls do not seem to like the boys singing on the bus 🙂
Our boys and girls cross country teams competed at the Burnet Invitational on Tuesday, September 10th. Below are the results of the race.
Our 8th-grade girls competed against 172 other runners on Tuesday. There were 11 teams competing and we earned 7th place overall. Also competing for the 7th grade girls was Glendy Chavez, Piper Brown, and Lillian Kamenzind.
The 8th grade boys raced against 13 teams with over 130 runners and earned ninth place. Bye Week Fun
Many thanks to our coaches for bringing the LVMS volleyball teams to watch UT volleyball on Thursday night! The Lady Vikings return to action on Monday when they travel to Burnet for their second game of the year. The home opener will be Monday, September 16 against Gateway.
Football Season Takes First Snaps
The LVMS 8th Grade Blue Vikings began their football season with an impressive 35-0 win over the Taylor Ducks at Lago Vista High School Stadium on Tuesday, September 10. The game began with both teams playing strong defense in the first quarter. Once the Vikings settled in, the offense could move the ball very efficiently against the Duck Defense. For the season's first game, the Vikings proved to be a very skilled and physical team. The offensive and defensive lines for the Vikings set the tone for the night by establishing the line of scrimmage. The Viking Offense produced three scores by Easton Rice, Levi Castro, and Landon Jordan. Defensively, the Vikings produced two more scores as well on an interception by Eason Rice and a fumble recovery by Trevor Seibenlist. Lila Rose added all five points after attempts as the placekicker. The Vikings' coaches are very pleased with the results of this first contest but know that plenty of corrections need to be made before they travel to Marion next week (Thursday, September 19).
On Wednesday, the LVMS 8th Gold Viking Football Team traveled to Lampasas for their first game of the season. The Vikings came up short vs the Badgers. However, it was a learning experience for the boys who had not played much or played any football in the past. Austin Babin and Austin Tarver were offensive and defensive standouts. The 8th Gold Vikings look to rebound in a scrimmage vs Marion on Thursday night in Marion.
The 7th Grade teams had a scrimmage on Wednesday night, and will kick off their regular season next Thursday in Marion.

Viking Excellence
Lago Vista ISD is proud to offer a robust offering of college credit opportunities for our students through our OnRamps and Advanced Placement (AP) programs. In addition to preparing students for the academic expectations of higher education, students who earn college credit through these programs have an opportunity to obtain college credit at a fraction of the cost of tuition, fees, textbooks, and materials at a Texas public four-year institution.
Based on the latest information from College for All Texans, the average cost for tuition, fees, books, and supplies for one college credit hour at public universities for 2024-2025 is $387.40. Last year alone, Lago Vista High School students earned 571 college credits through OnRamps and Advanced Placement (AP) amounting to $221,205.40 in tuition savings for families.
Congratulations to our students and staff for this incredible achievement. This is something to celebrate, Vikings!

Strive for 5!
In addition to missed learning opportunities, many parents also may not realize that our school's funding from the State is directly tied to daily attendance. Each day your child is present, the school receives about $37. While $37 might not seem significant on its own, it adds up quickly. Last year, the District's funding was reduced by over $700,000 due to student absences. This loss of funds impacts our ability to hire more teachers, reduce class sizes, and further enhance the learning environment for all students.
We appreciate your help in reducing avoidable absences so that your child — and all of our students — can take full advantage of the excellent instruction we offer every day.

Vaping = DAEP
HB 114 makes offenses involving the possession and/or or use of vapes a mandatory DAEP offense. School districts will now be required to place all students who are caught in possession and/or or using vapes (of any kind – not just those with drugs) into their DAEP.
Please share this with your children - it's just not worth it!
