TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK-THANK YOU PTO!
Thank you to our fabulous PTO and ALL our COLLINS CUBS for making this week extra special for our teaching staff at Collins Elementary. The teachers really seemed to enjoy all their special treats: from the smoothies to hydration station, to taco bar and the baked potato bar, breakfast, and sunshine treats and swag bags-WOW! Thank you for showing our teachers the love and appreciation they all deserve. There is still time to celebrate ANY staff member all month long by sending in a SHOUT-OUT to UCS!! THANK YOU, PTO! Do you have a staff member you'd like to thank? Then please be sure to share your "SHOUT-OUT!" All shout-outs are shared on social media. Email your shoutout to: mailto:UCS@uticak12.org with the subject of SHOUT-OUTS!
SMART MOVES GRADUATION
Our sixth graders enjoyed their special S.M.A.R.T. MOVES Celebration together, in partnership with the Sterling Heights Police Department. A very special thank you to Officer Journeau for showing up to support our sixth graders at this wonderful event that took place on Monday, May 12, 2026. Another special thank you to Mrs. Franks, Mrs. Abbiss, Mrs. Lehrer, Mrs. Taubitz, Mr. Mahrle, and Mr. Cahill for putting together some culminating activities of what our students learned in the program this year. Lastly, thank you Collins PTO for providing a gift and some treats to our officer! Well done sixth graders. On to the next wonderful events.

We have a lot of party and school-sponsored events that we look forward to welcoming you into our building to volunteer and be apart of your child's celebration of progress! Please be mindful that all visitors entering the building to volunteer at a school-sponsored event, must have a volunteer background check on file and APPROVED by the district, prior to chaperoning or helping to support our children at school. Please be mindful that the approval process takes approximately 2 weeks to be approved. These forms are necessary and required to be completed yearly. Thank you!
FIELD DAY MAY 28
Please see the letter regarding field day from Mr. Cahill.
DAILY ARRIVAL/DISMISSAL REMINDERS❗
Parents, our official start of the school day begins at 8:25 with the second bell. Please see our UCS Parent Guideline policy and procedures (p.610)
ELEMENTARY
Daily Arrival General supervision begins 10 minutes before the start of school. Students should not come to school before that time unless enrolled in School Age Child Care (SACC). If a student arrives late to school, the parent must accompany the student into the office, and the student must be signed in before he or she can go to class.
Daily Dismissal Students are expected to be picked up promptly at dismissal time, unless they are involved in a parent- authorized, supervised activity or enrolled in School Age Child Care (SACC).
Teachers official duty and supervision does not begin until 10 minutes prior to the start of the school day. Therefore, students should not be dropped off before that time without an adult's supervision. Breakfast doors open at 8:10. Thank you.
LUNCHROOM EXPECTATIONS REMINDERS-❗
Spring is in full swing at Collins. We appreciate your support in helping to review the UCS district procedures and guidelines. Adherence to the procedures is expected in the lunchroom. Please review the procedures with your CUBS as we have had an uptick in unexpected behaviors and school code of conduct mishaps recently. Our volunteers are here to support our students but a level of respect should be adhered to. Thank you for your help with these gentle reminders.
UCS PARENT/STUDENT HANDBOOK, p. 50

RECESS RULES REMINDERS
As the weather warms up and we are excited to get outside, it is a reminder to all our students that it is an expectation to follow all school board policies and procedures. That includes:
- Respectful language (not obscene or profane)
- No threatening language that may unintentionally cause harm to a student.
- HANDS OFF-no pushing, shoving, slapping, fighting that may endanger the safety of others
- Not jumping from the swings due to safety hazard.
- Respectful of all staff members that are present. It is important to listen to the rules the first time they are given.
SOCCER/FOOTBALL PLAYING EXPECTATIONS: we love the competitive nature of our sports enthusiasts, but it is important to remember that we are at a school ground, not a facility that is conducive to our competitive sports we play outside. We are here to play and have fun at recess together. Thank you for using kind words, respectful language, and non-physically aggressive mannerisms. Have fun!
UCS PARENT HANDBOOK
HALLWAY REGULATIONS
"Students are expected to conduct themselves in an orderly and courteous manner in the hallways. Students who are in the hallways during class time must have a pass issued by a member of the school staff. Hallway Restrictions may be implemented for students who are not able to meet the above expectations."
DEFACING SCHOOL PROPERTY
Taken from School Board Policy 5150:
"5150 POLICY - Student Vandalism:
The deliberate destruction or defacement of any school property, including textbooks, will be viewed as a most serious offense because it has a direct affect on the education of all students. In addition to regular disciplinary measures, students guilty of vandalism will be required to make full restitution. Where this is impossible, parents of these students will be held responsible."
