Dear Nob Hill Elementary Families,
As we soar through this school year together, I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to all of you for supporting our PTA Color Run! Thanks to your enthusiasm and generosity, we are moving closer to exciting improvements on campus. Additionally, I’d like to extend a special thank you for your contributions to our annual Harvest Drive. Your generosity truly reflects the wonderful community spirit here at Nob Hill.
November is filled with opportunities for us to connect, give back, and celebrate. I encourage everyone to join us at our upcoming events:

- Title One Literacy Night – November 13th
- Piper Zone Counseling Fair – November 14th
As we enter our busy season, look for more details coming home soon about Field Days scheduled for later in the month. Please stay informed by reading all emails and teacher communications, and if you haven’t done so yet, consider registering for a parent FOCUS account to ensure you have access to all important updates regarding your child.
This month especially, we reflect on gratitude and the strength of our Nob Hill community. We are so grateful for each of you and the partnership we share in educating our children. In the spirit of giving, we want you to know how much you are valued. From our Nob Hill family to yours, may this season be filled with warmth and joy.

Hello Nob Hill Families!
As we move into November, we have some exciting events and important updates to share! First, we would love for our families to join us at our upcoming Family Nights, which are a wonderful way to connect with our Nob Hill community after school hours. On November 4th, we have our Sicilian Oven Family Night, a delicious opportunity to dine out and support our school. Then, mark your calendars for Family Literacy Night on November 13th. It will be an engaging evening filled with activities to foster a love of reading and learning at home.
In addition, report cards will be released on November 5th, and the best way to access them is through the FOCUS Parent Portal. If you haven’t signed up yet, we encourage you to join! The FOCUS portal is your go-to resource for viewing report cards, interim reports, attendance, bus information, and more.
As we enter the busy months ahead, it’s important to keep a consistent homework routine. Set a regular time each day for homework, create a quiet space for your child to focus, and review assignments together to ensure they understand the task. Simple routines like these can make a big difference!

Happenings on the Hill
PreK
In VPK in November, we are extending our unit on Clothes. We will look at clothes that Native Americans wear. We will learn about uniforms from the Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, and Marines near Veterans Day. We will discuss showing thanks to those who help keep us safe. In addition, we will look at clothes worn in Zambia and make a no-sew quilt using African style fabrics. We will enrich our knowledge of patterns by drumming to an African welcome song. We will see how our clothes and alike and different from others. We will sort and compare textures as well. We will do a science experiment to determine the best way to clean dirty socks by hand. (Powdered soap or liquid soap.) Finally, we will focus on being grateful for all that we have.
Specialized program
Theme of the month:
This month we will have students Identifying and exploring a community's responsibilities . They will be Exploring the culture of peers ,families. Furthermore, they will be identifying and demonstrating Healthy habits that prevent illness.
Students will be working with the letters/sounds Dd, Ff, Oo, Cc.
3-Math: Student will be reviewing numbers 10-30 and recognizing , remembering measurable attributes and relating numbers and quantity, and counting to determine quantity. Student will finally be taking their writing journal home to practice writing skill
Intensive program
Unit: From Here to There
Throughout this unit, students will be learning about how things move from one place to another. Students will learn about
different vehicles and how some can move on land, in water or in the air. We will be working with the letters/sounds Uu, Gg, Hh, Ss; the numbers 7-10; the colors brown, pink, black, white; and the shapes pentagon, octagon, crescent, and rhombus/diamond. Our unit topic words are: down, fast, go, move, pull, push, slow, up. We will explore things that are fast and slow and that sink and float.

Ms. Reinman's Class
This month we will continue to work and learn about how there is "Energy All Around Us" in ELA and Science. In Social Studies, we will start off the month discussing the importance of voting, with the events leading up to and after the election. In Math our students will continue to work on their level of understanding for addition, multiplication and subtraction then introducing fractions and decimals.
We will be testing the students that participate in the FAA Datafolio starting on the 12th.
Kindergarten
Kindergarten is GOBBLING through November with excitement! In reading, students will be starting Unit 3: Rules at home and school. By the end of the unit, students will be able to answer the essential question, why do we have rules? In Math, Students will be learning about addition and putting together. In science, Students will be learning about sound and patterns of movement. In social studies, students will be learning about Native American Heritage and ending Unit 3: Time. By the end of the unit students will be able to answer the big question: Why are calendars important? Lastly, Kindergarten has an on-site field trip with the AI STEM bus on November 15th . The last day to pay is November 3rd.
1st
First grade is thankful to be spending November together! This month we have our very first in school field trip with the IA Stem Mobile Museum! We are very excited! In reading we are learning about digraphs and fiction stories with narrators. In math we are learning about collecting and representing data and extending the counting sequence to 120. In science we are learning about magnifiers and the sun. In social studies we are learning about how people make history. We are looking forward to some Thanksgiving activities and a restful break!
2nd
We are falling in love with 2nd grade and have so many things happening here! In science, we wrapped up forces in motion and are making our way through learning all about magnets and their properties. For reading, we are wrapping up unit 2 with characters and main story elements and jumping into unit 3 all about community helpers and central idea. For math, we worked our way through double digit adding and now are tackling Topic 5 with subtracting. Please continue completing homework with your kids and getting those iReady lessons!
3rd
Quarter 1 was a success for our 3rd graders! In the month of November, students will continue to learn about light and heat in science. In math, we will be moving on from multiplication and division and into geometry. Our focus will be on quadrilaterals, area, and perimeter. Government will be the main focus in both social studies and reading. In Unit 3 Benchmark, they will learn about government for the people through various texts. In social studies, they will learn about civics and political participation in unit 7 and structures and functions of government in unit 8. They will also be participating in mock voting! Third grade has a field trip planned for December and we will send information about the trip in the month of November.
4th
Fourth grade is excited for the fall season! We will be working on Topic 5 in math. In this topic, we will focus on various methods of division using counters, drawing models, and finding partial quotients. In reading, students will read informational texts and fictional stories about the interactions between citizens and government. In science, get ready to power up, because we are learning all about the different forms of energy. We are thrilled to announce we will be having our first field trip of the year to Sawgrass Recreational Park, on the 21st of November. Remember to complete the weekly required 45 minutes and 2 lessons passed on iReady and be on the lookout for upcoming fall activities!
5th
5th grade would like to remind you that the payment for Islands of Adventure is open. There are only 50 spots available and payment will be closed on December 2, 2024.
In science our students have been learning all about Energy. In this next unit we will be building circuits and learning the difference between open and closed circuits, and parallel and series circuits. In math students are working on whole number division. Please check homework folder every night. Finally in ELA our students are working on fictional texts to find the theme of a story, character perspective, and story structure.
Please continue to monitor iReady. Students must have 2 passed lessons and 45 minutes in each subject.

Please join us on Wednesday, November 13th for an Out of This World Title I Family Literacy Night. It will be a fun-filled night with strategies and tips to help your child to be successful in school and at home. The event will include some FAST Practice as well as Focus and iReady support.
You don't want to miss the fun! Free pizza and drinks will be served. There will also be tons of materials for you to take home and Publix Gift card raffles sponsered by Mathnasium!
Please RSVP by sending in the bottom portion of the flyer with your child. The class with the most parent participation will get a popcorn party and $5 Golden Bucks!

Focus Parent Portal
The Focus Parent Portal is your gateway to staying connected with your student's educational journey in Broward County Public Schools. For the first time, parents/guardians with multiple students will be able to access all their students in one place. The portal will allow you to monitor your student's academic progress, stay informed of upcoming school and district events, and allow you to communicate directly with your student's teachers.
To create a new Parent Portal account, you will need a valid email address. Connecting each of your enrolled students will require the following information:
- Student's full name
- Student's ID number (begins with ‘06')
- Student's date of birth

Late Arrival/Early Dismissal
Students arriving after the 8am bell need to walk into and be signed in through the front office.
You may pick up your child early until 1:30pm and ID must be shown. Person picking up student MUST be listed on Emergency Contact card as a designated pick-up person.
No students will be dismissed between 1:30 and 2:00pm.

Attendance Policy 5.5
Nob Hill Attendance Line - (754) 322-7202
Regular attendance is a key factor in a child's academic success. Regular attendance is when a student attends more than 95% of the academic school year; this may include up to 8 absences in a 180-day school year.
Each parent/guardian of a child within compulsory attendance age is responsible for their child's school attendance. When a child must be absent, the parent must report the reason for absence to the school's Attendance Manager.

Parents should report the reason for an absence within two school days. If requested by the school, the parent must provide documentation of an illness from a licensed health care practitioner.
Students must be in school unless the absence has been permitted or excused for one of the reasons listed below:
1. Illness of student (Physical or Mental Health)
2. Illness of an immediate family member
3. Death in the family
4. Religious holiday
5. Required court appearance or subpoena
6. Special event
7. Scheduled medical or dental appointment
8. Student has a communicable disease
Students on field trips, attending alternative to suspension programs, or in internal suspension programs are not considered absent.
Examples of absences that are not excused include, but are not limited to:
a) Failure to communicate the reason for absence(s)
b) Family trip that does not include one of the excused reasons listed in this policy
c) Vacation
d) Excessive absences due to illness without the requested physician verification that a medical condition justifies the pattern of absences will be recorded as unexcused.
e) Oversleeping
f) Missing the school bus (as routinely scheduled)

Although we love to acknowledge your child's special day, we encourage you to keep it simple.
*Please notify the teacher in advance that you will be bringing in items to celebrate.
*All food items must be store bought - cupcakes, doughnuts, etc. Please no cakes that need to be sliced/cut.
*Also please refrain from bringing in balloons.
