STAAR Assessment Update

STAAR is the standardized testing program for the state of Texas. This assessment measures student mastery of learning objectives called the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills, or TEKS.

• Federal and state laws require that all students participate in summative assessments in grades 3 -8 and in specific high school courses.

• Your child’s STAAR score provides you with the assurance that your child is prepared to enter the next grade level through the students’ mastery of the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) for a given course and determines college and career readiness at the high school level.

• The results provide educators and administrators with uniform information about where to focus resources and instruction to meet the needs of each student - especially in the core subjects being taught for the following school year.

Tested Grade levels and Subjects

3rd Grade - Math and Reading Language Arts

4th Grade - Math and Reading Language Arts

5th Grade - Math, Reading Language Arts, and Science

6th Grade - Math and Reading Language Arts

7th Grade - Math and Reading Language Arts

8th Grade - Math, Reading Language Arts, Science and Social Studies

High School students take the End of Course (EOC) exams and must pass in order to graduate.

The STAAR was redesigned last year by the state to better align with classroom

instruction and to allow students to demonstrate their learning better.

STAAR Scores can be accessed through Skyward when they are released from the state. Follow the steps below:

• Log in
• Click on the "Texas Assessments" button on the main screen.
• Click on "Texas Assessments Results Website" link.

This will automatically log you into the Texas Assessment Family Portal Website where you can view your student's scores.

Preliminary Score Release Dates:

June 7 - Preliminary results published in the family and analytical portal for EOC (End of Course Exams)

June 14 - Preliminary results published in the family and analytical portal for 3-8

Final Score Release Dates:

July 15 - Final results published in the family and analytical portal for EOC (End of Course Exams)

July 24- Final results published in the family and analytical portal for 3-8
