Mustang Memo
February 3, 2025
Principal's Message
Dear Parents,
Thank you so much for making Catholic Schools Week such a wonderful celebration of our community. It was truly a faith-filled and fun-filled week. We are deeply grateful for everyone who helped make this week so special. Our list of thanks is long!
A special thank you to the nearly 600 guests who attended the Showcase of Knowledge last Tuesday—our students were so proud to share their work with you! We also want to express our gratitude to our Home and School Association for treating the students to delicious Icy Pops.
We’re thankful to Fr. Marc for the soup and salad lunch the staff enjoyed, and to our Math Club for organizing the exciting Math Night for 2nd and 3rd graders. We are grateful to Daniel Kenney and Bob Lausten, published authors, for sharing their talents and passion for writing with our students.
A heartfelt thank you to Deacon Floersch for leading our prayer service last Monday, helping us begin the week in prayer and reflection. These experiences truly helped us “find God in all things,” with a community united in faith and a shared commitment to one another.
And finally, we want to offer a special note of gratitude to you, our parents, for partnering with us. Your support and involvement make all the difference, and we are so blessed to be part of the MOQ School and Parish community. This year’s Catholic Schools Week has been a beautiful reminder of the strength we have when we come together, united in faith and community.
In gratitude,
Maureen Hoy

Celebrating National School Counseling Week
National School Counseling Week 2025, "School Counseling: Helping Students Thrive," will be observed February 3-7, 2025. We appreciate the dedication of Dr. Peggy Croy and Mrs. Katie Watson and the many ways they support our students at MOQ.
Our school counselors play an important role in fostering the social, emotional, and academic growth of students. Through weekly classroom visits, individual student support, and collaboration on the Student Assistance Team, they provide guidance and resources to help students succeed.
They also coordinate a partnership with Catholic Charities School Mental Health Program, assess students’ learning styles, and evaluate standardized test data to support personalized instruction.
Please take a moment to thank Dr. Croy and Mrs. Watson for their commitment to our students and school community.
Parking Lot Safety
Please SLOW DOWN! Drive slowly and without distractions through the parking lot. We want everyone to stay safe. Please review the following procedures:
Morning Drop-Off
Drive slowly through the parking lot, as many students may be walking to the crosswalks. Stay alert!
As you arrive, please pull all the way forward to eliminate any gaps in the line.
Students should exit the vehicle from the passenger side only.
Never pass another car in the drop-off lane under any circumstances.
Parking Lot Procedures
When parking, please back into the parking spaces. This allows for a safer and clearer view when you leave.
Always move slowly through the parking lot and stay aware of pedestrians, parents, and students crossing or walking to the crosswalks.
Always use the crosswalks.
Thank you for helping keep our parking lot safe for everyone. Let’s work together to ensure a smooth and secure experience for all students, parents, and staff.
Congratulations and Thank You!
Math Night
On Thursday evening, our MOQ Math Club hosted an exciting Math Night for second and third-grade students. The event was filled with engaging math games and activities, giving students a chance to explore math in a fun and interactive way. At the same time, parents attended a presentation on the importance of developing a strong number sense and learned easy, enjoyable math games to play at home. Click HERE for a copy of the presentation!
A big thank you to Mrs. Nikki Rieck and Mrs. Tara Petersen for coordinating the event and making everything run smoothly. We also appreciate our wonderful parent volunteers for helping supervise the students and games. Finally, thank you to Miss Melanie Olson and Mrs. Denise Goddard for their informative presentation for parents. It was a fantastic evening of learning and community!
Spelling Bee
On Thursday, 25 students in grades 4-8 competed for the MOQ Spelling Bee champion. After 12 exciting rounds of competition that included words like tersely and anomaly, 5th grader, Libby E. claimed the title. Finn O. placed 2nd and McKenzie H. was 3rd. Libby and Finn will compete in the Metro Spelling Bee next Saturday. G-O-O-D L-U-C-K! Special thanks to Mr. Anderson, Mrs. Meysenburg and Mrs. Newsome for coordinating this special event.
Author Visits
Last week students enjoyed presentations by two talented authors. Thank you to Mrs. Meysenburg and Mrs. Schlautman for organizing these wonderful presentations.
Several of their books will be available for checkout in our Library. If your student would like more information:
8th Grade Mass at the Cathedral
On Thursday, our 8th-grade students attended the Catholic Schools Week Mass at St. Cecilia Cathedral with 8th-graders from nearly 30 other metro area Catholic schools. Archbishop Lucas celebrated the Mass and reminded the students that the Light of Jesus helps them to see the truth about themselves, that they are created in the image of God; that He loves them exactly where they are right now; and that He is always on their side lighting the way. Thank you to Liam K. for carrying our school banner in the mass procession and to our 8th-grade teachers Emily Targy, Erin McGonigal and Jake Cortright for coordinating this memorable day.

Bridge the Gap (BTG): Please note that the full cost to educate one (in-parish) student is $6,175.00. The tuition charged for one (in-parish) student is $4,200.00. This leaves a “gap” of $1,975.00 that is provided by parish tithing and donations.
You will have an opportunity to make a one-time or recurring donation to the BTG program when you complete the re-enrollment process. All donations to BTG are tax deductible and 100% of the donation will remain at MOQ.
2025-26 Family Volunteer Program: Beginning with the 2025-26 school year, Mary Our Queen School will institute a Volunteer Policy in order to engage families more fully in the school and parish community. Families with students in K - 8 will be required to volunteer a minimum of 15 hours per year (5 hours for single-parent families) between June 1 and May 31 at MOQ School or Family of Parishes (MOQ and St. John Vianney) and record the hours in their FACTS Family Portal. Families who do not complete volunteer hours will be assessed a $250 non-engagement fee. (There is no volunteer requirement for PS/PK.)
You will be asked to sign an acknowledgment of this new policy in the 2025-26 enrollment packets.
