Reutter School Weekly Update
Week of September 23, 2024
Principal's Message
Reutter School Families,
I hope you had a great time at the Annual Back to School Night on Wednesday, September 18. Thank you for attending and taking the time to learn about the exciting things happening in your child's classroom this academic year. I also want to express my gratitude to those who attended the first PTO meeting of the year.
The PTO is currently conducting two fundraisers: Spirit Wear and School Store. More information about both can be found in this weekly message.
This week, our students were invited to attend the PTO's Annual Fall Scholastic Book Fair. It was a wonderful opportunity for our students to choose reading materials based on their unique interests.
I'm thrilled to see excellent instruction taking place in our classrooms this week. Now that benchmark assessments have been completed, students are getting intellectually engaged with their learning through various activities - from completing DBQs in Social Studies Class, discussing problem-solving in Math Class, writing in ELA class, to preparing for the mile run in PE class.
Next week, we will have an alternative schedule on Friday as all students will be participating in a Character Development Assembly sponsored by the Franklin Township/Newfield Borough/Elk Township Drug Alliance. Friday, September 27 will also be our first Reutter RAM School Spirit Day of the year. We encourage the entire school community to wear either Reutter School apparel or our school colors (blue and gold) to show school spirit.
Thank you for your continued support.
Warm regards,
Mr. Theodore Peters

A Special Message from Mr. Peters (Updated)
Dear Families,
I am writing to inform you about an incident that took place on the morning of September 18 involving a potential security threat to one of our district's schools. The Franklin Township Police Department was alerted to a TikTok video that contained a threatening message, and they quickly launched an investigation. I want to extend my gratitude to the Franklin Township Police for their swift and thorough response, as well as their ongoing communication and partnership throughout this situation.
As a precautionary measure, our school was briefly placed into a "Secure" protocol, followed by a "Hold" protocol while the police conducted their investigation. I am pleased to report that the situation was resolved without incident, and the safety of our students and staff was maintained at all times.
In light of this event, I held grade-level assemblies on September 19 to discuss the importance of online safety. Additionally, students will participate in lessons next week during their enrichment classes focusing on safe and responsible social media use. These discussions will emphasize the consequences of posting inappropriate or threatening material online.
I am asking all parents and guardians to reinforce these lessons by having conversations with your children about the serious dangers of posting on social media. Here are some important topics to discuss at home:
1. No Anonymity on the Internet
It is crucial for students to understand that their online activity is never truly anonymous.
2. Monitor Your Child’s Social Media
We encourage you to regularly monitor your child’s email and social media accounts. If you’re not already doing this, please begin now. Inappropriate online behavior can lead to serious consequences at school, and it only takes one regrettable post to negatively impact your child's future.
3. Report Suspicious Activity
If you or your child come across any suspicious or threatening content online, report it to law enforcement immediately. If the behavior involves bullying or harassment of other students, please notify me or another school administrator without delay.
4. Think Before You Post
As parents, our behavior sets the example for our children. Unfortunately, inappropriate social media use is often modeled by adults, which children may imitate. By setting a positive example, we can help our children learn to use social media respectfully and responsibly.
5. Social Media Is Not Always Accurate
If you have concerns or questions about school-related matters, please refer to our school’s website or contact us directly. Social media often contains misinformation, and we encourage families to seek information directly from reliable sources like our school office.
Below are some websites that can be used to further inform yourself on this topic:
· PBS Learning Media - Technological Literacy
· Be Internet Awesome by Google
· Common Sense Education - Grades K-12
As always, the safety of our students is our top priority. By working together, we can continue to create a safe and supportive environment for our children, both online and in school.
Thank you for your ongoing support and cooperation.
Sincerely,
Mr. Theodore Peters
Principal
