Message from the Principal
Bathroom Vandalism
I’m reaching out to you with a heartfelt plea to address an important issue that affects our school and, more importantly, the well-being of our children—vandalism in school bathrooms. It's an issue that might not always be visible on the surface, but it is one that can cause long-lasting damage to the environment in which our children learn and grow.
As adults, we understand the value of maintaining a clean, respectful space for everyone. Bathrooms are essential to our daily routines, and they should be spaces where all students can feel comfortable and safe. However, when students vandalize these areas it undermines the very foundation of respect that schools work hard to instill. This type of behavior negatively impacts the entire school community, from students to staff.
Parents, you have the power to influence your children’s actions. By taking a few moments to talk to them about the importance of respecting school property and the consequences of vandalism, we can work together to protect the school environment and foster an atmosphere of respect and responsibility.
Here are a few points you can discuss with your children:
- Respect for Shared Spaces: School bathrooms are shared by everyone. Destruction or vandalism affects the entire community and creates a disrespectful atmosphere for all students and staff.
- Consequences of Vandalism: Vandalism isn't just a matter of mischief; it can lead to disciplinary actions, suspension, or even legal consequences. The cost of repairs and cleanup also diverts valuable resources away from other important school needs.
- Building Character: Part of growing up is learning responsibility. Understanding how one’s actions affect others helps children develop empathy and respect for the world around them.
- Be a Positive Influence: Encourage your child to be part of the solution. If they see vandalism happening, it’s important they feel comfortable reporting it to a trusted adult rather than participating in or ignoring it.
Parents, your guidance and encouragement are vital to helping children make good choices. By working together, we can ensure that school bathrooms remain safe, clean, and welcoming for every student.
Thank you for taking the time to engage in this important conversation.
iReady
Hopefully you all got the message from HCPS regarding the iReady Family Center. All of the students at BAMS have taken the iReady assessment in the fall and winter. Our 6th and 7th graders will take it one more time in the spring. The assessment helps students see their strengths and areas for growth in the areas of math and reading. Teachers use the data to provide targeted support in the classroom and during our Advisory Period.
Families can now access diagnostic score reports for each of their children in the iReady Platform.
State Testing Update
Dear Parents/Guardians:
The Maryland Comprehensive Assessment Program (MCAP) is comprised of state assessments in the areas of mathematics, English/reading/language arts, science, and social sciences. These assessments are required for students enrolled in grades three through high school and are designed to measure a student’s mastery of the content. This program will build a pathway to measure a student’s progress toward obtaining college and career readiness (CCR). In addition, these assessments will provide educators with valuable information to inform instruction and provide student support. Students will receive a paper copy of their score report after they have been shipped to the schools. More information about the importance of MCAP assessments can be found here (https://support.mdassessments.com).
Expected BAMS Testing Dates (testing begins after homeroom):
- MCAP Practice: 4/14
- ELA: 4/29, 4/30, 5/1, 5/2
- SS (8th Grade Only): 5/7, 5/8
- Math: 5/14, 5/15
To help your child perform their best on this assessment, the following actions are recommended:
- Continue to revisit charging their device.
- Ensure they have wired earbuds for classroom use and testing use (Bluetooth connection is not permitted).
- Attending regularly and participating in all academic activities is the best way to prepare for these assessments.
