NWMS Viking Weekly Update

Welcome to the 2024-2025 School Year! We look forward to seeing everyone at the NWMS Open House on Wednesday, August 21st from 5:00-7:00 pm. The event is floating but please arrive by 6:30 so that you have time to visit all your classes. Teachers will have Course Information and the Supply List needed for their class. In the Front Commons you will be able to get information from the Transportation Department, join our PTO, and purchase Spirit Wear!

For the most up to date information about our school, the school day, polices and procedures please review the NWMS Family Handbook located below. Inside you will find the Bell Schedule along with additional information to help you plan for a successful school year.

Individual Student Schedules will be mailed to your home address on Aug. 14th. You should receive it within a day or two. If you do not receive your schedule in the mail you will be able to pick up a copy at Open House from one of our counselors. There will be Change Request Forms at Open House at the Counseling Table in Front Commons.

As you are preparing for the 2024-2025 school year please remember that students travel through our Scan Stations each morning. Please do not purchase 3-ring binders with metal binders on the inside. Most teachers will ask that you use folders or composition books instead of binders. The metal 3-ring binders will cause the Scan Station to go off - especially when you have your Chromebook inside your book bag as well. If you are able to locate 3-ring plastic binders they are fine and do not cause the scan stations to go off. Please do not purchase metal tins for pencils/pens. Ideally, limit anything in your bookbag that has metal to help you get into the school building quickly. Also, please do not purchase a new bookbag that has a metal bar at the top or any metal support around the bag itself. If you have a metal eye-glass case or another piece of metal that you must bring to school, you will place it on the pass-around table each morning.

Next week, it is imperative that we collect your school issued Chromebook and charger so that we may prepare for the next school year. All school issued devices that are NOT collected at this time will be LOCKED by GCS Technology Services and you will not be able to use the device. By bringing the Chromebook to us now, we will be able to inventory the device so that it is ready for use when school begins at the end of this month. Even if you are returning to the middle school in the fall and you currently have the device that you have used during the last school year, the device still needs to be returned prior to the beginning of school later this month or it will be locked and will not be ready for you to use in the fall.

Please plan to drop off the school Chromebook and charger next week, August 5th through August 7th, Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday from 9 am until Noon in the Front Commons of our school. Mrs. Stringer will be present on those days to collect your devices and chargers. Weather permitting, Mrs. Stringer may also be out in front of the school to facilitate curbside drop off during those hours.

• Aug. 26 - 1st Day of School
• Aug. 26 - Fall Sports Tryouts after school - please visit the NWMS Website and the Athletics Tab for individual Sports Team Tryout Information and the Fall Schedules. All paperwork including current Sports Physicals and Concussion Forms are due to the Athletic Director, Cindy Thomas, by the first day of school. If possible, please bring forms to Open House.
